It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edna Turko on March 24, 2026, at the age of 93 at the McCreary Alonsa Personal Care Home. Edna was born on September 26, 1932 and raised in Alonsa, MB. She was one of seven children born to George and Stephanie (Ursel) Turko.
Edna’s Mother passed at a young age so Edna took care of her younger siblings Walter (Hank) and Marilyn, as well as her Father for many years until his death.
Aunty Edna never had a family of her own, but her extended family was so very important to her. She babysat many nieces and nephews. She was always very excited to be included in many family occasions and events and was even known to call and invite herself!
All family birthdays and anniversaries were never forgotten. You could always count on a phone call from Aunty (sometimes at 7 am) but always expected and much appreciated.
Things that made Edna happy were daily drives with her Dad to visit Margaret & Ed, Eddie & Paulina, and families, Friday night Bingo, Saturday trips to town for lottery tickets, going to the curling rink to cheer on family, her daily walks to town, tending to her garden and many house plants, all family gatherings, and last but certainly not least her many beloved dogs and cats. She was a member of the New Horizon Senior Centre and always enjoyed their monthly Sunday dinners. She enjoyed the handivan trips to McCreary to attend the weekly Adult Day Program at the McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre. Edna was a regular member of St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
In 2019, Edna made her new home in the McCreary/Alonsa PCH where she settled in and enjoyed the company of many new friends. We would like to acknowledge and express sincere gratitude to the entire staff for the patient and compassionate care Edna received while in their care.
Edna will be lovingly remembered by her sister Marilyn & John Turner, sister-in-law Paulina Turko, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and four generations of extended family.
She was predeceased by parents George and Stephanie, siblings Fred, Margaret (Eddie), Clara (Harry), Eddie and Hank.
Rest in Peace knowing you will be Forever in our Hearts.
A Funeral Service for Edna will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 1:00 pm from the Alonsa Community Centre in Alonsa, MB with Very Rev. Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating. Interment will follow in St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Alonsa, MB.
