Doris Chetyrbuk Obituary

Doris Chetyrbuk (nee Manchur) was born on July 2, 1933. She grew up with eight brothers and two older sisters. Other siblings were a pair of twins that died at birth and a sister named Jenny who passed away at the age of two.

Doris met John Kaskiw in Venlaw, MB. They were married on July 20, 1953. They lived with John’s parents for twenty years until John’s passing on July 20, 1973.

Doris moved to Dauphin on August 1, 1973, with her three children. She was introduced to Frank Chetyrbuk, and they were married on August 28, 1975. Frank passed away on June 15, 1986.

Doris is survived by her daughter Loretta (Wayne) Symchych of Dauphin, MB and John (Gloria) Chetyrbuk of Humboldt, SK. Sadly, her second child Karen Kaskiw passed away on February 2, 2008.

Doris was always a proud “little baba” to Johnathon Chetyrbuk of Saskatoon, SK and Cortney Chetyrbuk of Humboldt, SK. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren until their move to Saskatchewan in 1997. She often referred to the “little hands” that would help her make perogies or work in the garden. Doris was never happier than when they were around.

Doris’ passion and “green thumb” led to her having twenty-one tomato plants one year in Happy Haven where she resided until her move to St. Paul’s Personal Care Home on November 21, 2024. Cooking was a joy for her, and she loved nothing more than a full table of traditional Ukrainian food and an abundance of family and friends to share it with. Doris also worked at Sticky’s restaurant where many people came to know her. Other jobs she held were at Peterson’s Bakery, Towers Hotel and in Home Care.

Doris’ service to her church and community was of utmost importance to her with over forty years of service to the UCWL of Canada alone. She faithfully served in church and recited her rosary both at home and at church for anyone she felt needed prayer. This included family and other members of the community. She could always be counted on to lend a helping hand at the church or hall.

Doris passed away in Dauphin Regional Hospital on February 17, 2025, with her children by her side. She is survived by brothers Tony (Nellie) Manchur of Winnipeg, MB and Ernie (Harriet) Manchur of Williams Lake, BC and extended family of many nieces and nephews.

Thank you, Mom, for your example of dedication of love to family and faith. We love you.

Special thanks to Dauphin Regional Hospital, St. Paul’s Personal Care Home and Sneath Strilchuk for your special care of Mom and our family.
