Doreen Doering Obituary

Doreen Alma Doering of Roblin, Manitoba passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025 at the age of 94 years.

In loving memory of a life well-lived, we remember our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend.

Doreen was born Sept. 19, 1930 to parents Albert & Lydia (Zimmer) Nernberg in Silverton, Mb.  She was Baptized Oct. 1930 and confirmed May 1944 in Shevlin. Mb.

Doreen’s foremost priorities in Life were her Faith & Family.   Following a lengthy journey with cancer,  Doreen entered into eternal rest with her family at her side on February 21, 2025 at Crocus Court Personal Care Home in Roblin, Mb at the age of 94.

As the eldest daughter of 10 children, Doreen assumed a maternal role especially to her younger siblings and her early years were dedicated to assisting with raising the family and household tasks on the farm in Shevlin, Mb.

In her late teens she ventured to Winnipeg where she lived and worked at a laundromat in the downtown area.  She ultimately met the love of her life and moved back to Roblin to marry Lawrence Doering on June 19, 1953.  Together her and Lawrence worked hard to build their life farming grain and cattle in Deepdale, Mb.  It was on that family farm, they raised 2 daughters; Dawna (1956) and Gwenda (1962).

In 1983, they built a new home in Roblin and enjoyed retirement camping, fishing and travelling until Lawrence’s untimely passing in 1997.

Doreen was a perfectionist in every aspect and a self-taught seamstress. When her daughters were young, she sewed almost all of their clothes including identical outfits for herself and her 2 girls. In fact, she was skilled at many crafts such as knitting, crocheting, she taught classes in macrame and resin glass art, made silicone window deco, folded unique card boxes and as a natural teacher, it gave her an immense amount of joy to help teach others.

Doreen was a life-long member of The Lutheran Ladies League and very active until health issues later in life.

She was always up for a challenge and it was in her 50’s that she took her 1st swimming lessons and started to play golf. In spite of the late golf start, she was in the minority population who could proudly boast a “Hole In One” (which she did).

Doreen was very Community-oriented and volunteered for the Roblin Hospital Auxiliary for 30 years, she loved to curl, was a member of the Red Hat Society as well as weekly card games at the Drop In Centre and played the role of hairdresser to an immense number of family and friends.

Regardless of what she did, it was her friendship connections with others that filled her with the greatest gratification. Doreen aged gracefully and she always appreciated visits and phone calls from friends and family.

She eventually moved to Roblin Apts. in 2017 where she  lived for 4 years and enjoyed the camaraderie of all the residents. Doreen’s final move was to Crocus Court Feb. 21, 2022 where she lived the last 3 years (ironically to the exact date Feb. 21, 2025). She adored many of the fabulous staff at Crocus Court and considered some as her 2nd family.

Doreen will remain in our hearts forever and leaves behind her children: Dawna (Larry) Boyce, Gwenda (Bob) Kiez, grandchildren Tricia (Jay) Brown, Janelle (Aaron) Ashcroft, Danica (Bryden) Hutlet and 8 great-grandchildren; Jaxen Brown, Griffin Brown, Cooper Ashcroft, Maguire Ashcroft, Chloe Ashcroft, Boden Hutlet, Holland Hutlet.

Sister Elsie Gow and 2 brothers Ken (Ginny) Nernberg and Cliff (Alexa) Nernberg.

YOUR LOVE WILL FOREVER BE OUR GUIDE,  REST IN PEACE
