It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one Donald James Armstrong, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at the age of 85 years.
Don was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan on February 5, 1937 to Kenneth and Leita (James) Armstrong.
He received his education at various places in Western Canada. Following his education he was employed with Royalite Oil Company in Kamloops, BC for a number of years before moving to Viking, AB where he farmed until settling in Dauphin in 1964. In Dauphin he was employed with Herb Levine’s John Deere Implement dealership for a time and then Beaver Lumber (Home Division), B & B farm supplies and then joined GM dealerships Murdoch Motors and Martin Motors where he remained as an automotive salesman for 26 years, having received many awards as salesman. Don retired from automotive sales but continued in the workforce joining Mountainview Adjusters until retirement.
On March 22, 1958 Don married Marion Klein in Viking, AB. Together they raised their family of 3 children, Ken, Allan, and Karen. In his retirement years he enjoyed being outdoors - hunting, fishing and feeding the birds in the back yard of his river side home. His love of nature drew him to be a supporter of Ducks Unlimited for many years. He and Marion enjoyed spending summers at their cottage on Lake Manitoba at Benyk’s Point, visiting with friends, enjoying the water and working in the yard. For many years they spent part of the winter months in Mazatlan, Mexico where they enjoyed the sunshine, sight seeing and learning about Mexican culture. He enjoyed talking to people wherever he went and would remember names of most. Don was also a long time member of Khartum Temple /Dauphin and District Shrine Club.
Don is survived by his wife Marion Christine (Klein), his children Ken Armstrong of Dauphin, Al (Alexis) Armstrong of Brandon and Karen (James) Bilan of Winnipeg as well as five grandchildren - Bradley, Alaura, Ian, Jordon and Logan and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Evelyn) Armstrong, of Thunder Bay.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don may be made to the Dauphin Trinity Lutheran Church.
