On a crisp autumn day in Rivers, Manitoba, Denise Janeen Madden was born to Winnifred and Stuart Madden on October 18, 1954. From that day forward, the world was graced with a woman whose warmth, strength, and laughter would touch countless lives.
On December 15, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Roblin, Manitoba, Denise passed away peacefully. She was the beloved wife of the late Wayne Zimmer for 50 wonderful years—a partnership rooted in joy, resilience, and shared adventures.
Together, Denise and Wayne raised four children who carry her legacy forward: Candice, married to [Jun] of Regina, Sask., Deana, partnered with [Curtis] of Ft. McMurray, AB, Quentin of Ft. McMurray, AB, · Mackenzie of Ft. McMurray, AB. Her children were her pride, but her grandchildren—seven in total—were her delight. Each one a joyful surprise that filled her heart and home with laughter. Starting with oldest to youngest- Kennedy Perry, Jessica Lukin, Keiden Haas, Karyss Haas, Kinsley Haas, Kallen Haas and Deneah Infantado.
Denise is also survived by her cherished sisters, Gwen Melinchuk and Lynda (Henry) Nimilowich, sisters-in-law Eleanor Madden and Lynne Madden, brothers-in-law Dean-Alan Zimmer (Adriene), Grant Zimmer and Ken Roberts along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will remember her fondly.
Throughout her life, Denise wore many hats—each with grace and grit. She was a dedicated employee of Parkway Co-op for 25 years and also worked with the local EMS. Later, she brought her compassion and care to homecare services in Roblin and surrounding areas, often rising before the sun to help others start their day with dignity.
Denise was a remarkably talented individual, especially when it came to crafts. Her creativity knew no bounds—from intricate drawings to delicate glass etching, cozy crocheted pieces, and beautifully detailed wood burning. Her hands were always busy, and her heart was always in her work. Each piece she created reflected her patience, skill, and love.
She also had a deep love for farm life. Denise found peace and purpose in the rhythm of rural living—caring for animals, tending to the land, and embracing the simplicity and beauty of country life. Horses held a special place in her heart, and her connection with them was one of quiet understanding and mutual respect.
Outside of work and her artistic pursuits, Denise found joy in her garden, tending to both flowers and animals with equal devotion. She was a baker of legendary sweets, and a cook whose meals brought comfort to family and neighbors alike.
Denise was a sister, a friend, a mother, an aunt, a godmother, and a grandmother—but more than that, she was a role model. She showed us what hard work, kindness, creativity, and unconditional love truly look like.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy will live on in the stories we tell, the recipes we pass down, the gardens we plant, and the love carried forward by those who knew her.
A Celebration of Life was held for Denise on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel in Roblin, MB with Pastor Warren Ironstand officiating.
