David Yakimishen of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the age of 82 years.
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved father, husband and grandfather at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
David will be greatly missed by his wife Louise of 59 years - Louise (Kingerski), son Ivan (Brenda G.), grandchildren -Samantha (Dallas), and Nickolas. Sisters Annie Yaciuk and Janice Kufley as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces, as well as many friends.
David was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Lena (Danyluk) Yakimishen, brothers Morris and Hilliard.
David was born and raised in the Dauphin and Gilbert Plains area. He farmed for many years raising Limousine/Angus cattle. He was an environmentalist, employed by the Intermountain Conservation District where he introduced zero-tillage to farmers. He planted thousands of trees in the Parkland area as windbreaks. Later he was a beekeeper in the Swan River area. Dave was a Mr. Fix-it and could fix any type of motor - whether it was a piece of machinery, heavy equipment or a motor vehicle.
He was instrumental in obtaining the names of interested people in the area to be connected to rural water services.Dave always loved working on a caterpillar and still did so into December of 2020.
He enjoyed camping, road trips to Western Canada as well as a dream trip to Hawaii to the island of Oahu. He thoroughly enjoyed his coffee meetings with friends at Tempo. He was a Board member of the Selo site, a Kinsman and involved in many community activities. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Cremation has taken place and due to current Public Health restrictions the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
