Trevor Jordan Halcrow came into this world on March 29, 1991, and weighed a whopping 3.3 pounds to Geraldine Halcrow and John Gentes.
In May, Joscelyn received a call asking if she would like to take care of a special baby who was at the NICU at the children's hospital. She had never seen a baby that small before and proceeded to scoop him up and cuddle him. On May 28, 1991, he was brought into the Kothlow home. Mikey was the only baby I ever had that came with a set of instructions. He had to be put in a special cradle that Bill geri- rigged and there were strict rules about over stimulating him as he was so premature. But he grew - the pediatrician had to weigh Mikey twice because he couldn't believe how well he was doing at one check ups
As time went by-the Kothlow's fell in love with this little bundle of smiles and energy and Mikey was officially placed for adoption on October 12, 1993. His name was changed to David Michael Frederick Kothlow. He was named for his Grampa Dave Rody. Mikey was loved by his new forever brothers - Wil Kothlow, Joseph Kothlow, Andrew Kothlow, Dale Ricard and Jeffrey Ricard.
Mikey attended Blessed Virgin Mary Sadochok nursery school and later he went to Victory school for kindergarten.
Mikey was baptised on July 12,1996. His God parents were Les and Laurie Kelner. Their daughter Brandy was Mikey's lifelong friend. She delighted in playing with Mikey and on occasion stealing his potty away from him.
The family moved to Grandview, MB in 1997. Mikey attended the Grandview K - 12 school where he often delighted and aggravated the teachers and staff with his engaging smile — often at the same time.
The Kothlow kids as they were known, were known for their love of fishing, gaming, riding bikes and sliding on the hill. Our house was always full of kids who were playing and eating. One of the things Mikey was known for was” Just open the basement door and throw me a ham samich” His mother-in-law Nancy said he often showed up at her house and asked if she had any ham.
When Mikey was in his teens, he went to live his big brother Wil and his wife Tara in Hannah Alberta. He worked for A&W. But his love of his Jesse brought him back to Manitoba.
Mikey and Jesse met when they were about 13 years old. Together they had four children Jewelz, Andralynne, Diamond, and Dominic. He also cared deeply for Jesse's Daughter Tara. The two of them did not stay together for the long term but they always made their way back to each other some how. They had a lifetime love.
Mikey is predeceased by his daughter Faith Marie Allerie who was born on March 17, 2021. Sadly, Boopie as she was lovingly called passed away in December 2022.
He is also predeceased by his dad, William Kothlow, in March 2005.
In 2007, his stepfather David McCool, joined our family. In June of 2008 Mikey and his brothers walked me down the aisle when we made our marriage official. Mikey loved Dave and always got a big hug from him.
In Mikey's late teens, he started meeting his birth family. A whole new family dynamic opened for him. His birth mother and father - Geraldine and John as well as siblings Louis, Lena, Chris, Tyrone, Desmond, Felicia, Tyson, and Tasha as well as Geoffrey and Lennette. As Chris put it- Mikey was the baby brother on his mom's side and big brother on his dad's side.
For a time, Mikey lived with his sister Felicia and her family if Portage La Prairie.
Mikey is survived by the mother of his children - Jesse Houle, his in laws Jack Chartrand and Nancy Houle, daughter Jewel, daughter Andralynne, daughter Diamond, son Dominic and stepdaughter Tara. His mom Joscelyn McCool and stepfather David McCool. Brothers Wil Kothlow (Tara), Joseph Kothlow (Vicky), and Jeffrey Ricard- Kothlow.
He is also survived by his birth family Geraldine Halcrow and John Gentes as well as siblings Louis, Lena, Chris, Tyrone, Desmond, Felicia, Tyson, Tasha, and Geoffrey and their families.
He is also survived by many relatives and friends to numerous to name.
Mikey was predeceased by his Gramma and Grampa Rody, Father William Kothlow, Brother Andrew and sister Lannette.
Although Mikey struggled for most of his life with depression and drug addiction he is also remembered for his big mischievous grin, huge bear hugs, and his undying love of all his family and friends.
Rest in peace my son — your turmoil is over.
