Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Daniel Stephen Cutforth announce his passing.  Surrounded by his loving family, he peacefully passed on the morning of February 2, 2023 at the age of 71.

Dan leaves behind many family and friends.  His closest friend and loving wife Violet, daughter Kathleen Honke (Mark), son Andrew (Danielle), grandchildren Kuirsten Cutforth and Christopher Swintak (daughter Zanovia's children) and Mackenzie and Blake Honke, sisters-in-law Gloria Kazakoff (Robert) and Patricia Klym (Eric Becker).

Dan was born in Gilbert Plains on October 16, 1951 to parents Steven and Doreen Cutforth. He took his schooling in Gilbert and area.  He continued his studies at Brandon University.  He met the love of his life during summer semester at the university in 1973.  They married on August 9, 1975 and moved to The Pas, MB where Dan worked in the Mill-Manfore.  Here he started out by sweeping floors and eventually earned his 3rd Class Engineering ticket.  They had their daughter Zanovia and son Christopher while living in The Pas.  Unfortunately their son Christopher only lived for 9 hours.  He is buried in Eldon Cemetery.  In 1982 he moved back to Gilbert Plains with his family. They then welcomed daughter Kathleen and son Andrew to the family. He got a job, working at the Dauphin General Hospital in the engineering department where he remained until his permanent retirement in 2021 at the age of 69.

Dan helped his dad with the bee business then took over from his dad and kept it as a side line until 2009 when he sold it.

Dan was very involved with the Gilbert Plains Band, eventually becoming the band instructor and conductor.  Dan learned to play many instruments.  His love for music led him to develop his own band, North of Dixie.  Dixieland music was his passion, so many trips to New Orleans were made with family and friends.

Dan was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Doreen, brother Jack, children Christopher and Zanovia.

In lieu of flowers donations may be sent the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
