Charlene Fleming Obituary

Obituary for Charlene Fleming
June 17, 1964 – July 14, 2025

Charlene was born on June 17, 1964, in New Westminster, British Columbia, to Henry and Linda Borne.  In 1975, she moved to Winnipegosis, Manitoba, a small community that would become her forever home.  It was there she met Doug, the love of her life.  They were just kids when they found each other, but their love was deep and lasting.  On August 8, 1981, they married, and from that day forward, they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and partnership.

Charlene and Doug created a beautiful family. Charlene was the heart of the home and poured herself into raising their children: Tannis, Gary, and Cheryl, with unwavering love and endless patience. She was a safe place, the best mom, the biggest cheerleader, a shoulder to cry on, and the loudest laugh in the room. Her love was strong, absolute and without limits.

When she became a grandmother, that love only grew. Her grandchildren were her entire world—her pride, her joy, her legacy, each one lighting up her life in special ways.  Her bond was full of stories, snuggles, and unconditional love. She treasured being their grandma and that radiated from her every word and action.  Her fur grandbabies brought her comfort and joy also, a sign of her endlessly loving heart.

Once her children were school-aged, Charlene began work; first at Shell, then for two decades at the Winnipegosis & District Health Centre.  She was known there not just for her dedication and work ethic, but for her kindness, laughter, and the way she treated everyone like family. Charlene wasn’t just part of the community; she was a pillar of it.  Her presence brightened every room, her kindness left lasting imprints, and her generosity touched countless lives.

Charlene loved life in all its seasons. She treasured sunny boat rides on the lake and tending to her beautiful flowers. She delighted in going on family vacations, the mountains in Banff, tropical getaways, and her treasured girls' trips with friends; moments of happiness and connection that she carried close to her heart.

She is survived by her loving husband, Doug, her children: Tannis (Chad) Beattie, Gary (Arlana), and Cheryl (Dimitrios), along with her cherished grandchildren Madison, Brooklyn, Hudson, Ava, Tristan, and Kaity. Her mother, Linda Borne, her sister Brenda (Gary) Fediuk, her brother Brian (Nancy) Borne, and extended family, Linda (Foxy) Clarkson, Michael Fleming, Susan Menard, and Caroline (Wayne) Matkowski, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, all mourn her loss deeply. Charlene was predeceased by her father, Henry Borne; her father-in-law, Thomas Fleming; her mother-in-law, Mary Fleming; and her brother-in-law, Danny Menard.

Charlene’s cancer journey was a hard one, 18 months of incredible courage, grace, and strength. She never stopped fighting and even in the hardest moments, she showed us what it means to be resilient, how to love through pain and live fully, even in the face of goodbye. Doug, her rock for nearly 44 years, gave her the gift of staying in her home until the very end.  His care was tireless, his love unwavering and infinite.

Charlene leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, humour, and strength.  She made the world brighter simply by being in it.  This goodbye is deeply painful because our love for her is boundless. But she is still with us; in the family she nurtured, the flowers that bloom in her garden, the ripples on the lake, and the memories that make us laugh and cry at once.  We miss the way she loved us, and the way we loved her, and that love that will never fade.

Rest easy now, Charlene.  You were taken too soon, but in the time we had, you gave us a lifetime of love. We will carry you with us, always.
