Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend Carol Judy Catagas, 77 passed away peacefully at Dauphin Regional Health Center with family at her side.
Mom was born in Valley River on December 19, 1947, to Joe and Jane Catagas. She spent her young childhood years in Valley River with her parents on the farm and where she attended elementary and junior high. When she was sixteen, she ventured out to Regina where she was a live in Nanny and attended grade 10 and 11. Missing home she moved back to Valley River, where she got a job working at the school.
One beautiful fall evening in 1966 she decided to go to the picture show in Gilbert Plains, only to find the theatre closed but found the love of her life. It would be what they call love at first site. Dad seen her coming down the street and knew he had to talk to this beautiful girl. So, he struck up a conversation and before you knew it, they were in his 1959 Volks wagon driving to Swan River just going for a ride and talked for hours. He swept her off her feet and she was in love, or she must have been because he blew the motor in his car on the way back from Swan River and she had to walk 4 miles to get help but said she loved every minute, and they never stopped talking and joking around for the next 59 years.
Mom and dad moved to Silver Ridge in 1967 where she started working in the community doing home care. In 1968 they welcomed their first son Everett. Their second son Jonathan was born 2 years later in 1970. After that mom stayed home to raise us as dad was away working. Mom took care of things at home and was never scared to tackle anything. We only had one vehicle which dad had to use to get to work but I remember mom starting the tractor to take us to the lake to go swimming. Mom always took time for family. Once we started school the first thing we would do when we got off the bus was to sit with mom as she wanted to hear all about our day.
Mom and dads love for cruising around never ended. There was many a Sunday spent driving the back roads for fun, taking in the sites, or going for a drive to see family somewhere.
Mom had a heart of gold and cared deeply for her family, but we all knew when mom meant business even our dog Rip knew, all she had to do was point and he would listen. Even till today we still joked about this with mom. Mom loved Elvis Presley, had all his songs memorized spent hours listening to his music and often joked that he was her hero.
Mom welcomed everyone into her house nephews, nieces, friends, and family, they always knew if they needed a place to stay, she always had a bed for them.
Mom loved bingo and would go every chance she got. She loved having visitors stop by. Everyone knew where the coffee was on, the best lemon pie around was served and a good card game was going on.
Later in years mom traveled to Valley River to look after her aging parents during the week and come home on the weekends to enjoy family time.
Mom adored her grandkids loved spending time with each of them talking, watching them play and grow up. You could see the huge smile on her face and excitement in her voice every time she talked about them. A few years ago, she as blessed with great grandkids which made her heart fuller, and her smile bigger.
In 2009 her fight with failing kidneys started. Her and dad made many a trip to Dauphin for dialysis but that never stopped her from enjoying life to the fullest. She was a strong woman and fought a good battle, till the lord called her home on Oct 11, 2025.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dennis, their children Everett (Gypsy), Jon (Audrey), her grandchildren Kasandra (Scott), Renee (Ryley), Courtney, Riggs, Lux, Chance, Michael and great-grandchildren Maci, Malcom, and Maddisson. Her brothers Gordon (Marilyn), Robert, Wilfred, brother-in-law Brian, sister-in-law Bella, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter Carley (Dorian), her parents Joe and Jane, Her brothers Dennis, Andrew, Clements and Percy, her sisters Doris, Sheila, Mary-Jane, Florance, and Agnes. Her brother-in-law Keith, sisters-in-law Deanna and Irene
