Carl Semchuk, 92 of Dauphin, MB passed peacefully on November 14/2021, with his family at his side.
Carl was born October 19/1929 in Gilbert Plains, MB to Nellie (Kotyk) and Anton Semchuk. He attended Winona & Pozir schools. On October 15/1955 he married Iona Skomorowski in Shortdale, MB.
Carl’s work included: logging in Ontario, operating heavy equipment and truck driving in Alberta, working for the Department of Highways in Dauphin, and his passion farming. No matter where work took him, he always returned to farming.
He farmed for 16 Years at Meharry and Shortdale, MB. It was on the farm he was happiest, growing crops, raising livestock, tending to the garden and farmyard. His farm was his pride and joy. Carl poured his heart and soul into meticulously and efficiently running the family farm. Even after retirement, conversation quickly turned to farming and longing for the possibility of having a hobby farm.
While in Shortdale, Carl served as a councillor for the RM of Hillsburg from 1971-1975. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing music (guitar & banjo),dancing and playing cards. In retirement he enjoyed outdoor activities such as gardening, cycling, cross country skiing and walking. Indoor activities included watching sports, reading and cooking.
Carl and Iona enjoyed travelling to Western Canada many times, to visit with their girls, son-in-laws and grandchildren. He looked forward to these trips and was known to have his suitcase packed two weeks in advance. Other travel highlights were a cruise to Alaska and a Trip to Hawaii.
Carl will forever be loved and missed by his wife Iona of 66 years, his 5 daughters,Valerie (George) Geisbrecht of North Vancouver, Darlene (Ken) Therrien of Kelowna, Jane (Steve) Holdaway of Maple Ridge, Bev (Alex) Yeung, of Edmonton and Sharon Mulhall, of Surrey.
Carl is survived by 8 grandchildren and one great grand daughter. Carl is also survived by his only sister Isabel Tokar.
Carl is predeceased by his parents,Anton & Nellie (Kotyk) Semchuk and brothers Nelson, Gerald, David & Morris.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate, loving care provided by the Dauphin Personal Care Home over the past 3 1/2 years.

Private Family Prayers were offered on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 7:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin.
A Private Funeral Service was held for Carl on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 10:00 am from the St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dauphin with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating.
Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery - Dauphin.
