Calvin Ginther

Calvin Mark Ginther was born on September 17, 1983, to Ben and Lucille Ginther in Grande Prairie, Alberta.  He left us suddenly on June 1, 2026 in a tragic car accident at age 42.

His early childhood was spent in Crooked Creek, Alberta. He then moved with his family to Swanson, Saskachewan where he completed grade 1 through 9 at Swanson Christian School.

On December 10, 2000 he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Min. Con Barkman. He remained faithful to his vows until the end.

Calvin married me, Tracy Wilgenbusch, on September 18, 2005 in Roblin, Manitoba. We then spent a short time living in both Crooked Creek and Heart Valley, Alberta before settling down in Roblin, Manitoba in 2006. We were blessed with 20 years together. God was good and gave us 4 boys to complete our family.

Dad enjoyed a variety of jobs but he found his heart's calling in teaching school which he did for 10 years. His former students held a special place in his heart.

His faith in God and natural teaching abilities brought inspiration to our family devotions. He also readily shared them with the congregation.

In 2020 Dad gave up teaching. This brought a change to our family. Dad expanded his communication business and, working closely with Mom, created Shevlin Communications and Canvas. This allowed them to make many meaningful friendships in the community. Service calls were an opportunity for us boys to go along with Dad whether we wanted to or not. Dad always treated us to a stop at the C-Store for snacks and drinks before heading out. While Dad always provided for his family, material gain was never the focus of his life.

Dad's interests included cooking over the fire, reciting poetry, and fishing. We boys remember how Dad spent one of our last fishing trips fixing fishing rods rather then any actual fishing. He loved children and had a special way of gently coaxing them onto his lap for a story.

A recent special prayer brought new courage to face his health challenges. We rest in the assurance that his longing to live one day free of pain has been granted.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife Tracy; sons: Seth, Tyson, Jamin, and Jesse, all of the home; parents: Ben & Lucille Ginther, Swanson, Saskatchewan; siblings: Susanne & Paul Klassen, Swanson, Saskatchewan and Jason & Janae Ginther, Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. Tracy's family; parents: George & Beth Wilgenbusch; siblings: David & Donalda Wilgenbusch and Jill & DaVon Bartel, all of Roblin Manitoba; his dear nieces and nephews, Grandma Josie, Grandma Addis, and extended family and friends. 

A memorial service was held for Calvin on Monday, June 15 at 7:00 pm and a funeral service on Tuesday, June 16 at 10:30 am from the Church of God in Christ (Mennonite) on Highway 5 East of Roblin, MB.
