Bruce Gordon Graham Telfer Obituary

Bruce Gordon Graham Telfer of Dauphin, aged 72, passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 29th, 2023. Bruce was born on March 23rd, 1951, in Dauphin Hospital to Gordon James Telfer and Bessie Marqarette Telfer (Winters).

Bruce grew up in Dauphin with his older sisters, Jean Braun and Thelma Bannatyne – and enjoyed being their little brother. In his late teen years, he took a trip to Vancouver to develop a relationship with his older brother, Ed and shared many memories afterward.

He married Debbie (Debra) Joan Telfer on May 24, 1985. They enjoyed a happy 37 years of marriage and supported each other throughout life while raising their two children with immense pride.

After working various part-time jobs around Dauphin, Bruce started his career as a carman apprentice with CNR. His work took him to many small towns throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan as he worked on train derailments.

Bruce was a proud volunteer firefighter with the Dauphin Fire Department, reaching 30 years of service. Upon taking an early retirement with CNR at age 50, he put his fire and safety knowledge to use as he started his business, Dauphin Safety X3, servicing fire extinguishers throughout the Parkland area. After 13 years of business, he opted to work for Dean Cooley as a service driver and lot maintenance until his retirement at 65.

Bruce worked hard, but he also played hard! He was a devoted legion member with a 50-year status and appeared in the colour party several times. He loved supporting his children with their interests and often got involved. Throughout the years, you could find him behind the bench of sporting teams, part of the Dauphin Highland band as a drummer, and on family snowmobiling, boating trips and vacations. Later in life, he rediscovered his passion for motorcycles and vintage cars, purchasing several throughout his golden years, road-tripping with his wife and fishing with friends.

Bruce is survived by his two children, his son Barrett Telfer (Becky Romanuik) and grandson Rhys; his daughter Chantel Telfer (Ryan Moody) and granddaughter Ivy, brother Edward Johnston (Marlene), mother-in-law Annie Weaver, sister-in-laws Corinne Highfield (Gilbert), Anne Hanson (Gerry), Sandy Weaver (Ken, deceased) and nephews and nieces – Randy Johnston (Debbie), Sandy Muller (Steve), Randal Berthaudin, Rene Berthaudin, Derek Braun (Katherine), Bradley Braun (Laura), Cheryl Highfield (Al, deceased), David Highfield, Cathy Worrall (Robert), Jeffrey Kilmister, Lisa Hanson, Ben Hanson, and numerous great nephews, great nieces, cousins, and friends.

Bruce is predeceased by his wife, Debbie; his father, Gordon, and his mother, Bessie, step-mother Hazel Lee; his sisters, Jean (Dennis) and Thelma (Ernest); his father-in-law, David Nelson; and his sister-in-law, Joyce.

A private service will be held for the family. Instead of flowers, please send donations to the Dauphin Fire Department or Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
