            Bernice was born to John & Carrie Zaplitny at the Dauphin Hospital, their 5th daughter. Her early education was at the Janowski School in Oak Brae, with 2 years at the Rorketon School, and finished her High School at Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton. She then attended Teacher’s College in 1958/59.

           So began her diversified teaching career. She began teaching at Weiden in 1959 for 4 years, Elementary and High School in Winnipegosis, Clothing and Sewing in Winnipegosis Middle School, Elementary and High School in Rorketon, Middle School at Dauphin’s MacKenzie, and High School at Dauphin’s DRCSS. And then retired in 1997.

            She married Michael (Mac) Sliworsky in July 1962, lived and farmed in Oak Brae until Mac’s untimely passing in 1985. She moved to Dauphin and stayed for 25 years until she moved to Rorketon in 2011 to stay with Mary during her battle with Cancer.

            Bernice served as Zirka President for 3 years, and was part of the team that organized the group’s trip to Ukraine in 1991. She served on the board for Selo Ukraina for 15 years, served as field advisor for Brandon University, and worked 5 federal elections.

            Bernice loved to sew and create. She designed and helped with floats for 4-H and Selo, was a founding member of Rorketon’s 4-H Club, loved cooking perogies/home made bread/meals, knitting, reading, and visiting with her dear sisters.

            She was predeceased by her husband Mac in 1985, father John in 1973, mother Carrie in 1991, sisters Mary in 2012, and Hilda in 2017. Brothers in law Ed(2006), Pete(2007), and Ben(2015). She is survived by her 3 sons:  Patrick and wife Loretta, Jim and his wife Muujig, Jon and his wife Corinne, 10 Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Grandchildren, Sisters Jean and Emily (Jim), sister in law Lois, and brother in law Leif, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

            The family held a small gathering at the Sneath-Strilchuk facility on Thursday April 22 at 11am, and open interment at the Oak Brae Cemetery after the service.

            The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to either Selo Ukraina, and/or the

Lawrence Recreation Centre -  cheques payable to the Lawrence Rec Centre c/o RM of Lakeshore.
