It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of Barry Marcel Nakonechny on November 8, 2021. Barry passed peacefully at home with his family at his side.
Barry was predeceased by his parents Bill and Pauline Nakonechny, parents in law Vic and Vi Dawson, brother Ed Nakonechny, sister and brother in law Florence and Paul Gingera, nephew Perry Nakonechny and two great nephews Tyler and Brian Nakonechny
Barry grew up on the family farm near Pine River until they moved to Dauphin when he was 9 years old. He attended elementary and high school in Dauphin and was involved in in many sports when growing up. He enjoyed track and field, archery, downhill skiing and heading down to the river to swim with friends.
After high school Barry ventured to Flin Flon where he was employed on a surveying crew for the Hudson Bay Company. In 1972 he headed back to Dauphin where he was employed with the Department of Highways. He started out surveying and then moved to the drafting department.
While working in Dauphin he met his soul mate Janet. They fell in love and married September 25, 1976.They have been blessed to sharing 45 years together.
One of the greatest days in Barry’s life was the arrival of their long awaited bundle of joy, their son Brett. Barry was excited to share and teach him all the things a father would want for his son.
Family and friends were very important to Barry. Spending time together creating stories and memories filled him with joy and laughter.
Barry enjoyed the outdoors whether it was camping and boating with family and friends, hunting or riding the spyder . Barry was a long time member of the Gilbert Plains country club where he enjoyed many summers golfing with family and friends.
Barry also enjoyed the many vacations taken with friends whether it was going skiing to Montana and Banff or vacations south to Mexico, the Dominican and Jamaica.
Barry was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His faith and church family were important to him.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife Janet, son Brett from Brandon, brother David (Shirley) Nakonechny of Dauphin, sister in law Nettie Nakonechny of Dauphin, sister in law Sharon (Rainer) Arndt of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Penrose, physician assistant Alee, Pam from the clinic, the staff at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre and to Audrey and Jenna for all their help . We would also like to thank the staff at Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Home and a special thanks to Pastor Howard Burnie for always being there for us.
A Celebration of Life was held for Barry on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 1:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Pastor Howard Burnie officiating.

Proof of Covid vaccination will be required to attend the service. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery - Dauphin.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in memory of Barry may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Trinity Lutheran Church.
