Barbara "Barb" Maksymetz Obituary

We are deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Barb Maksymetz, age 69, of Ethelbert, MB on Thursday Nov. 21, 2024 at Dauphin Hospital.
Barb was born on Feb. 24, 1955 in Uranium City to Harold and Helen Dudar (nee Choptain). She was the first born of 12 children. During her school years, she was an additional “mother” figure to her siblings. She attended and graduated from Ethelbert School. She also attended hairdressing college in Brandon, which helped her family and friends as she has done a lot of their hair!
Barb met Gary Hollyoake and were united in marriage. Together they had three children: Corrine, Shelley (deceased) and Kevin. After numerous years together, they parted ways but remained close.
Barb and Kevin moved to Yorkton, SK where she decided to pursue a career in homecare. She truly enjoyed caring for others. She took courses to further her knowledge in this field. She had numerous jobs, but her heart was looking after others which she did with homecare and her last job with WDRS in Winnipegosis. Barb also moved to Alberta and lived with her brother Rod, until she decided that Ethelbert was “home”.
Barb met Marcel Maksymetz at bingo (of course!) and after spending time together and sharing similar interests, they were married.
Barb enjoyed gardening, art, drawing, painting, flowers, playing bingo, camping with Corrine, visits with Kevin, talking for MANY HOURS on the phone with her siblings and crafting. Crafting was her passion! She could whip up something so quick and it would look so beautiful. She enjoyed making quilts, blankets, knitting, crocheting and making wreaths. Everything she made was made with her whole heart and soul, and also made with love. Her most recent “projects” were all the floral items for her brother Ivan and Kristine’s wedding and a lighted Christmas box as you see here. She also enjoyed baking and cooking and like a typical Ukrainian - there was enough food to feed a small army!
Barb was predeceased by her parents Harold and Helen, her brothers Max, Gary and Harvey, her infant daughter Shelly, her niece/godchild Ashley, husband Marcel and other extended family members.
She leaves to mourn her passing; her daughter Corrine (Barry) and son Kevin, her sisters; Debbie (Elmer), Susie, Bev (Paul), Val (Kelvin) and Cindy (Scott), her brothers; Kenny (Lynn), Ivan (Kristine) and Rod (Eddie), her sisters in law; Elaine, Lorraine and Darlene, Gary (her children’s father), her “fur grandbabies” Harley and Booties, along with extended family and friends.
She was “mom” to all of her children’s friends. Barb had a heart of gold, who believed in family and the little things in life. She never asked for anything and always had a positive outlook no matter what was thrown her way.
Thank you for all the knowledge and values you instilled in us all. We love you and miss you so very much. Till we meet again.
