On November 11, 2024, at her home in Dauphin, Manitoba, Barbara Marlene Yaciuk, family matriarch and caregiver, passed away at the age of 70 years. Barb (Barbie) was born on October 9, 1954 in Dauphin to William and Pauline Yaciuk (nee Boychuk), fourth child and the first and only girl in the family.
Barb was predeceased by her parents, William (in 1981) and Pauline (in 2014) and by all five of her brothers, Jerry, Garry, Orville, Jack and Michael. Her memory lives on with her surviving niece, nephews, great niece and great nephews, sister-in-law Anne Yaciuk and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide network of friends.
Barb led a happy active life filled with family and friends. After graduating from high school in Dauphin, Barb spent no time securing employment with the Province of Manitoba. First in Winnipeg for approximately a year then returning to Dauphin to work for the Department of Highways. She received, upon her retirement, a Meritorious Service Award for 46 years, 8 months of employment with the Department of Infrastructure and Transportation for loyal and devoted service with the Government of Manitoba. Barb loved her job, took great pride in her work and in mentoring new employees, of which there were many.
Just as she was in her career, Barb was also the "go to" person within her family - providing trusted advice and guidance to those she loved. In the 1990's she was proud to become a business partner in Golden West Harvesters with her two brothers, Garry and Jerry.
Barb's happy place was her summer residence at Jantti's along the shores of Lake Manitoba. She loved hosting friends and family there, blasting her old time rock 'n roll and driving her quad to visit her lake friends. Keeping her property neat and tidy, with every flower and blade of grass in perfect place was important to her.
Barb was proud of her Ukrainian heritage - cooking Ukrainian dishes just like her mother and attending services at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection when she could, until her health physically prevented it.
Though her death leaves a hole in our hearts, we are happy knowing that she is at peace in Heaven with her loving family - united together again.
A Funeral Service was held for Barbara on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin.
Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin.
