Annie "Anne" Konopski Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Anne Konopski announces her passing at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 86. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Trush (Chris Tait), step-daughters Shelley Hordiyuk (Kelly) and Isaac Hordiyuk, and Trasa Hordiyuk. Her brother Leonard Fox (Beryl) and sister Alma Bayes.

She is predeceased by her husband of 35 years Vincent Konopski and son Wayne Konopski, her loving partner of 14 years Nick Hordiyuk, her parents Clifford & Hazel Fox, sisters Mary Muir and Mabel Fox and brothers Roy Fox and Eddie Fox.

Anne grew up on a farm in the beautiful setting of the Riding Mountains near Kelwood. She moved to Dauphin and worked in a private personal care home. She met her future husband Vincent and raised their family in Dauphin. She was a wonderful mom to her children and was selfless in caring for Wayne in advocating for the special healthcare he required.

She and Vince farmed alongside working their regular jobs to make ends meet with medical expenses while supporting their children’s hobbies and dreams. Together they would always put family first and make the most beautiful memories for them to feel safe and loved. Special times were spent as a family at their cottage at the lake.

Anne served as President of the Dauphin Figure Skating Club for 5 years spending many early mornings playing music for the skaters. Anne worked in retail at a ladies’ dress shop and later at Canadian Tire as a hardware and sporting goods clerk. She loved Christmas and always looked forward to setting up the toy wall. When her daughter moved back to Dauphin after Vince passed, she helped with the flower shop and learned how to create beautiful flower arrangements and set up amazing window displays. She was proud of the trophies she won for this and her curbside appeal mentions for her garden flowers.

She was lucky to find a second chance at love when she met her high school sweetheart Nick who was recently widowed as well and they would spend many happy years together both in Victoria and Dauphin. They cherished their time spent grandparenting Isaac and were proud of his every accomplishment. Their example of love for their families and each other was inspiring.
After experiencing so much loss and adversity throughout her life, after Wayne’s passing and the subsequent loss of Nick, she carried on with grace and gratitude. She had often said “Things could always be better but it could always be worse. Be grateful for what you have. There are no guarantees in life.”

In her many years, her love for vegetable gardening filled the cellar and flower gardening was shown by the 17 flower beds and 34 container planters she designed.  In the winter months her passion was puzzling having pieced together over 2000 puzzles. She would have Kim take a picture after each one was completed. She enjoyed sewing and making crafts and crocheting.
But her true joy was Bella, a little mini schnauzer toy poodle that stole her heart. The world revolved around Bella.

Friends and family will remember Anne for her beautiful smile, kind heart and wonderful sense of humour.  She often thought that since she lacked education she couldn’t offer sometimes what was needed. Her loved ones know better. It’s not what she said that was important it was how she made them feel. Her positivity and determination were an inspiration to everyone that knew her.
Even though her family wishes they could have kept her forever, they are comforted by the fact that after a long hard battle with cancer she is no longer in pain and at peace.

A special thanks to Dr. Marais, Dr. Forsyth and their teams for their care and compassion.

In accordance with Anne’s wishes a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

For those who wish to honour Anne’s memory, a donation can be made to the Cancer Care Institute or the Parkland Humane Society.
