Anne Boguski Obituary

Obituary- Anne (Balak) Boguski

January 1, 1921 – May 15, 2020

Peacefully on May 15, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, our mother, Anne Boguski passed away at Holy Family Nursing Home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Philip(2003), infant son Michael Terry(1952), her parents, Peter and Mary (Robak) Balak, sisters, Florence, Mary, Olga, Teenie, brothers Walter, baby Orest and son in law Peter Kondrat.

She is survived by sons, Leonard (Mary Kay), Ted (Jackie), Jim (Sandy) and daughter Marlene. She will be missed by her grandchildren–David (Leslie), Bradley (Lise), Jenna (Kyle) Furkalo, Jared (Breanne) and great grandchildren Zoe and Cailin Furkalo and Wilford Boguski.  Also surviving is her brother Micheal Balak and wife Lillian of Dauphin. She will be missed for her humour and wit by her many nieces and nephews.

Anne Balak was born on January 1, 1921 at her parents’ farm in Zoria, Manitoba. Times were difficult and challenging during Anne’s childhood years. She was hardworking and tenacious; walking 4 1/2 miles to school and working on fields during haying and harvest times. This provided her a work ethic that helped her accept the future that was her destiny.

Her patience and her sense of traditional pioneer values sustained her throughout her life. She married Philip Boguski in 1944 and settled on a farm in the Zoria district. They soon started their family of four children who benefitted from their parents’ example of hard work.   Anne continued to work diligently alongside her husband- being supportive and attending to a huge garden, animal needs and all farming requirements. She was a wonderful cook, a homemaker who was generous, caring and hospitable. Nothing gave her more pleasure than to see her table surrounded with friends and family, enjoying her labour of love.

Due to Philip’s health issues, they moved to Dauphin in 1967.  They enjoyed many years of outdoor activities of fishing, mushroom picking, dancing, picnics at Moon Lake and playing card games with friends.

After Philip’s passing in 2003, Mom was left alone after 59 years of marriage, she moved from Dauphin to Winnipeg in 2006 to be closer to her children. She resided at the Eastern Star Chalet in Charleswood where she received wonderful homecare.  She was back in her element – cooking, baking and just waiting for her children and grandchildren’s visit. She enjoyed the many friendships that were made during this time.

In 2011, due to health issues she moved to Holy Family Nursing Home. The care and love she received from the dedicated staff on 4A was exceptional. She was always appreciative for the attention and service that she received and was known for her loving hugs and smiles to show her gratitude. The family is forever grateful for the care and love she received. Being a woman of great faith, she looked forward to the weekly Liturgies and spiritual services which she rarely missed.

During her stay at Holy Family, her daughter, Marlene made sure that her mother continued to enjoy outings to parks, family events, and many other adventures that were possible with a wheelchair. As well she was her hairdresser and fashion coordinator.  We thank her for her commitment to mother’s well-being during these past 10 years.

Anne was a strong, independent role model for her children and grandchildren. She loved her family truly, always put their needs before hers.  She will be missed for her humour, wisdom and love.

To have a mother who always gave unconditional love to her children is a blessing we will always cherish.

Thank you to Father Bohdan Lukie and Pastoral Care for their prayers and support.
