Andrew Merko of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on December 13, 2025 at the age of 80.
Andrew was born on December 15, 1944 in Grandview, Manitoba to Peter and Mary (née Dines) Merko. He attended school in Winona until Grade 8 and completed his Grade 10 education in Grandview.
Andrew spent much of his working life travelling extensively throughout the North, including communities such as Yellowknife, Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk. His years of work took him far from home and he carried many stories and experiences from those travels.
Later in life, Andrew also enjoyed travelling in the south with his sister Sylvia and brother-in-law Harold. He visited Galveston, Brownsville, South Padre Island, San Antonio,Texas as well as Mexico. Andrew also travelled to the Grand Canyon with his brother Larry and sister-in-law Jean and attended a family gathering in Las Vegas.
Andrew was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary Merko; sister Rose Heffer and brother-in-law Wayne Heffer.
Left to mourn his passing are his brothers Russell, Martin, Mike, Peter (Rhonda) and Larry (Jean); sisters Sylvia Kelly (Harold) and Patricia Sawchuk (Barry); nieces Jennifer and Stacey; nephews Jason and Clinton; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, along with extended family members and friends.
In accordance with Andrew’s wishes, cremation will take place and no formal service will be held.
