Allana Beaton Obituary

My mother Allana Donna Maxine Beaton, 78 of Dauphin Manitoba passed away December 8, 2024, at the Dauphin Personal care home. She was born on December 4, 1946, to Allan and Florence Beaton of Dauphin.

Growing up she spent many happy days playing with friends and her older sister Florie. She especially enjoyed staying out at her Grandma Anderson’s farm. She attended church with her grandmother at the Salvation Army church and became a devout Christian at an early age.

As a young woman Mom worked in the mailroom at the Winnipeg General hospital and as a nurses aid at the King Edward Hospital and nursing home in Winnipeg.

Mom was married in 1965 and welcomed me, her only child, Tammy in 1966. The marriage ended and Allana was a single mother who supported herself and me as a live in housekeeper. A second marriage lasted 5 years and ended. Mom never married again. Even though it was the 1970s Mom bravely moved with me to Alberta and worked as a live in housekeeper for many prominent families all around Alberta. Mom eventually moved back home to Dauphin in the 1980’s and stayed.

Mom’s favorite pastime was cooking and trying new recipes. She collected many cookbooks, magazines and newspaper clippings over the years. She developed many of her own signature dishes that impressed the sophisticated palettes of her employers and are still favorites of her family today. Mom’s favorite colour was turquoise and she also loved the wild lady slipper flower. She enjoyed Elvis, gospel, and country music.

Mom’s passion was her strong faith and relationship with God. She worshiped with many churches and was most recently a baptized member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mom wanted everyone to know, “Get to know God and Jesus Christ; form a relationship with them and get baptized. When I look back on my life, he is the one who guided me.”

Left to cherish Mom’s memory are her daughter Tammy Shewchuk and her husband Barry Shewchuk of Leduc Alberta. Her cherished Grandchildren, Granddaughter Sherry Bowie and her husband Robby Bowie of Leduc Alberta, her Grandson Jeff Shewchuk of Leduc Alberta.

Her cherished Great Grandchildren, Kaia Hinse, Addyson Bowie and Mckenna Shewchuk also of Leduc Alberta. She will also be fondly remembered by her sister Heather Beaton of Dauphin, her brother Ronald Beaton and his wife Mary Anne of Grandview Manitoba, her brother Everett Beaton of Manor, Saskatchewan, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Allan and Florence Beaton of Dauphin and by her sister Florie Carpenter of Dominion City Manitoba.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Allana may be made to Dauphin & District Community Food Bank Society Inc. or Parkland Humane Society.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Riverside Cemetery (Dauphin, MB) at 2:00pm.
