Allan Cords Obituary

Allan Gordon Cords was born on September 24, 1926, passed away on July 27, 2020 in Grandview, MB.

Gertrude Elizabeth Cords (Rody) was born October 8, 1926, passed away on March 7, 2019 in Grandview, MB.

Allan and Gertrude grew up in the same district and attended Halton School together.  Right from childhood Gertrude always had her eye on Allan.  She saw him as a hard working, honest man.  They started dating in 1940 and got married in 1947, they were married for over 70 years.  After getting married they bought a half section of solid bush and started farming.  They started with an axe, a truck and a cow, they literally cut out their life from the land. They spent a lot of time trapping, hunting, clearing land, picking roots and stones.   In 1949 a wild fire nearly burned them out.
Allan and Gertrude were blessed with 4 children, James their first born in 1949, Barry in 1950, Brian in 1955 and Lynn in 1958.  Family was very important to them.  Gertrude was an exceptional host and it wasn't uncommon to see thirty to forty guest being well fed.  There were always lots of people at the farm.

Allan ran his fathers mill for many years and later went to work with Dubek's mill in the winter.  He worked for them about 15 years.  Gertrude worked at Powell's as a farm hand as a young woman.  Allan often reminisced about how hard she worked.  Allen and Gertrude were exceptional role models, understanding, forgiving and generous, always led by example.  They lived life simply, worked hard and were great community supporters, very involved with the Pleasant Valley Hall.

They retired from farming and moved to town in 1997 right before their 50th wedding anniversary.  Even after retirement Allan continued to work out at the farm, he also enjoyed  being co-pilot on roads trips in the semi overlooking the crops and visiting the farmers. Gertrude continued to host and cook for anyone that stopped in.  She was a life long member of the WI.  Gertrude liked to write, she reported for the Grandview Exponent for many years and kept meticulous daily journals, she was a great descriptive writer.

Allan and Gertrude will be lovingly remembers by their children, James (Ann), Barry (Debbie), Brian (Gail), Lynn (Myron Kowalchuk); grandchildren and their spouses, Chad, Marilyn, Jennifer, Erinn, Jesse, Tracy, Trudy, Ronnie, Scott, Trisha, Tyler, Todd; 28 great grandchildren; Gertrude's sisters, Verla Clark, Kathleen (Eugene) Kluke; in-laws Mary Rody, Fred Malchuk, Judy Strang; many nieces and nephews and extended family.
