Alec Low, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and a man admired by all who knew him, passed away on February 9, 2018 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre. Alec was born on the Low farm north of Foxwarren, MB on June 26, 1923 to parents Thomas Low Jr. and Lillian (nee) Baird. He was the fourth son in a family of six boys and two girls.
As Dad told the story with a grin on his face and a glint in his eyes...he stayed home from work in northern points of the province in 1946 because he had met "this little gal" who became his wife and soul mate for some 70 plus years. Married on March 7, 1947 Alec and Shirley (nee Jackson) raised a family of two girls and two boys while farming together most of those years just north of Foxwarren.
As shared by grandson Skye: " He was a few months short of 95 trips around the sun. He was a soft spoken, hardworking, smooth skating, dry witted, gem of a human being. We shall never see his like again. Although, he is literally still all around us. His skills as a woodworker allow us to work at his desk, our books are on his shelves, we rest our mugs on his benches. To name a few."
A farmer with such a gentle soul, Alec lived with nature through his gardening and bird and animal watching in the latter years on the acreage at Dauphin lake. Quiet times with wife, Shirley or gatherings with family and friends on the deck, sharing a bubbly or playing marbles or cards was common thread sewn into the very fabric of our family.
Alec was predeceased by his parents, son Jack; son-in-law Gary Brandon; brothers Gordon, Victor, Leslie, Don & Bill; and by a sister Phyllis Low.
He will be lovingly remembered by wife Shirley; daughter Bonnie Brandon of Dauphin, MB- children Skye (Kristi) and Bobbi; son Ronald (Linda) of Edmonton, AB - children A.J. and Taylor; daughter-in-law Marlene Low of Brandon, MB - children Chris (Tanis) and Jon (Natalie) and daughter Debra DeCorby of Russell, MB and children Murray (Stevee); Jill (Clint) Sawchuk and Ricky and great grandchildren Pyper, Tiana, Brady, Luke, Quinn, Brett, Max and parker, as well as a sister Evelyn Widdicombe of Chetwynd, BC, sister-in-law Elaine Low of Yorkton, SK, sister-in-law Beverly Forester of Calgary, AB and numerous nieces an nephews.
In accordance with Alec's wishes cremation has taken place and interment will take place in Foxwarren, MB at a later date.
