Wm. Hockridge Obituary

William Garret (Garry) Hockridge passed away at the Dauphin Personal Care Home on Monday, May 7, 2018 at the age of 93.  

Garry was born on September 26, 1924 in Manor, SK to William and Dorothy (Hindmarch) Hockridge.  The family left Saskatchewan in 1936 and settled in the Mayflower district in the R.M. of Dauphin, where the Hockridge family continues to farm today.

Garry served in WWII from 1942 - 1946 with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.  He trained as a soldier in the Canadian Infantry Corps and spent 30 months overseas in the United Kingdom, Italy and North West Europe as a Rifleman.

Upon returning home from the war, he met and married his wife of 65 years, Laura (Jean) Parker, on September 26, 1952 at the United Church in Dauphin.  Together they farmed and raised four children, Garry (Neil), Glen, Julie and Kevin.  Garry enjoyed watching hockey and baseball, and playing cards with neighbors and family.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, and their four children; Neil (Lori), Glen (Gail), Julie (Ken) Freeman and Kevin (Debbie) all of Dauphin; his sister Marjorie Allin of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren, Jeff (Kristen), Brad (Chantelle), Kerri (John), Melinda (JP), Josh (Chelsea), Bryan (Bonnie), Jim, Chris, Tanner, Megan and Kiefer; and great grandchildren, Angelica, Jessica, Sierra, Gracie, Jesse, Gabrielle, Colby, Kennedy, Jaxon, Finley, Riley, Naomi, Elsa, Alexander, Rhett and Victoria.

Garry was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy; four sisters, Olive Attwood of Winnipeg, MB, Edna Hughes of Thunder Bay, ON, Lillian Stephen of Kelowna, BC, Ivy Wilson of Gilbert Plains, MB; two brothers, Lavern of Winnipeg, MB and Orval of Dauphin, MB.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and support staff at the Dauphin PCH for the care and support they provided to Garry during his time there.  

A celebration of Garry's life will take place onSaturday, May 19, 2018 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dauphin at 2:00 pm.
