Welcome to the memorial page for

William "Bill" Yurkiw

January 28, 1938 ~ October 6, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

William Yurkiw was born in the Rural Municipality of Grandview on January 28, 1938 to Nykola and Fedora (Komishin) Yurkiw.  He was the second youngest child with 7 brothers and 6 sisters.  He grew up on the farm and attended school at the Mountain Gap School.  From school he travelled west working several jobs until he returned home to the farm for a year.  On December 1, 1964 Bill began employment with the Department of Highways.
On March 6, 1965 he married Judith Barron and together they raised 3 children, Kimberley, Terry and Sheldon.  Bill enjoyed hockey games at the local arena watching with friends as their youngsters played.  He also got a lot of enjoyment watching professional baseball on television.  The family spent time camping at Child's Lake and Lake of the Prairies.  Bill was always happy to see children and was particularly happy with visits from his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and anyone else who dropped by.  Music was also something that Bill enjoyed,  some good old country music or a toe tapping Ukrainian song never came amiss.  He retired from the Highways Department on May 1, 1990 after just over 25 years.  When Bill's health began to fail him, he became a resident of the Grandview Personal Care Home on September 26, 2016 where he resided until his death.
He is survived by his ex-wife Judy, daughter Kimberley and Ken Syrnyk, son Terry Yurkiw and Holly, son Sheldon and Eva Yurkiw; grandchildren Kyliegh, Shaylin and Brook, Evan, Aaron, Amy and Austin as well as two sisters Annie Zazulak of Olds, AB and Tinnie Prokepowich of Winnipeg, MB and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased  by his parents and brothers Mike and wife Lena, John and Wife Nellie, Andy and wife Lena, Steve and wife Mary, Fred and wife Rose, Peter and wife Bell, and Matt, sisters Tille and husband Matt Drebet, Mary and husband Roy Sokolowski, Nellie and husband Henry Pulock, Jean and husband Peter Strykiwsky.
