It is with deep sadness the family of Walter Mrozowich announces his passing at the Dauphin Personal Care Home, Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at the age of 92.
Walter was born July 16, 1925 to Peter and Jadwega (nee Yakimiski) Mrozowich in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In 1929 the family relocated to Fork River purchasing a farm next to the Village of Fork River. Dad was 4 years old. This is where he grew up, received his education, and where the love of the land moulded his successful future as a farmer.
Walter met the love of his life, Effie Boyko, and they were married October 24, 1953. They made their home on the farm raising 4 children. Over the years the mixed farm evolved into straight grain farming until his retirement in 1999 when they moved to Dauphin.
When farming permitted Walter enjoyed the company of friends and neighbours over morning coffee at the local coffee shop and in winter he enjoyed curling. Retirement allowed time to travel. He enjoyed holidays in Vegas, Mexico, Florida, and Hawaii travelling with family and friends. We all knew his favourite place was being at home.
He was predeceased by his father Peter in 1973, his mother Jadwega in 1987, and sister Anne in 2016.
Walter is survived by his wife of 64 years, Effie, four children, Jerry (Barb), Terry (Laurel), Sally (Alden) Darragh, and Darren Mrozowich, grandchildren, Dean (Trish) Mrozowich, Dawn (Karl) Sproll; Ryan and Tyler Mrozowich; Riley and Janelle Darragh; Chloe, Brayden and Sydney Mrozowich, great grandchildren, William and Henry Sproll, and siblings Helen, Stella and Edward.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Walter may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
Funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10:00 am from St. Viator's Roman Catholic Church in Dauphin, MB with Father John Legitimas officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.
