Walter Fuller Obituary

Walter Oscar Fuller of Ste Rose du Lac, Manitoba formerly of Winnipegosis and Dauphin, passed away quietly September 12, 2019 at the age of 91 years. Walter was the second child of
four born to Elvert and Nina Fuller. Walter was born August 27, 1928 in Bemidji, Minnesota. Walter was an outdoors man and passionate about sports. Most of us have listened to his many stories about trapping, fishing, and sports.
Walter met Alice Bradseth in December of 1951 and they were married on June 16, 1952. They spent their honeymoon in Chicago, Illinois where they watched the Toledo Mud Hens baseball
team. After their honeymoon, Walter reported to Camp Gordon in Georgia for military training. Alice joined him for the final six weeks of training. Following training, Walter traveled to the
Shimbuku receiver station on the island of Okinawa, where he served for three years as a telecommunications expert during the Korean conflict. After returning home to the United States
in 1955 Walter returned to Bemidji State University to complete graduate studies in education. He then started his teaching career in Brainerd, Minnesota. Over the next six years Walter and
Alice added five children to their family: Dan, Noni, Nina, Sari, and Al. In 1964 the Fuller family moved to Quartz Hill, California where Walter taught high school for six years.
Longing for the woods of northern Minnesota and being a true Viking fan, in 1970 Walter moved the family back to the homestead at Boston Lake north of Bemidji, Minnesota. This time at
Boston Lake was challenging and due to the lack of employment Walter decided to take a teaching position in Manitoba.
In 1975 Walter and his family moved to Winnipegosis,Manitoba. Walter taught high school for an additional 17 years before retiring in 1992. In 1993 Walter and Alice decided to move to
Dauphin, Manitoba where Walter enjoyed fishing, playing golf and basketball, cutting wood and spending time with his grandchildren.
Walter was predeceased by his mother and father, Elvert and Nina Fuller;  brothers, Marlow and Wilford; and sister, Norma. Walter is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice Fuller (nee Bradseth) and five children, Daniel, Naomi, Nina, Sarah (Mel) and Allen (Patty). Walter is also survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due in October. Pallbearers were Kevin Schroeder, Luke Duetekom, Stephanie Becker, Hannah Fuller, Allison Fuller, David Becker.
