Victoria Kostiuk Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Victoria "Vicky" Kostiuk at the Dauphin Personal Care Home on December 5, 2018 at the age of 90 years.
Victoria was born at Zalicia, Manitoba on April 30, 1928 the 7th of 13 children to Joseph and Rosalia Kimakovich.
She attended school at Riga District.  She married Tony Kostiuk on November 21, 1948 at Pulp River where they farmed until 1980.  Mom worked hard planting 2 large gardens every summer and enjoyed sharing the produce with her siblings when they came to visit.  She would milk cows by hand and carry the milk to the house to separate it, then she would carry the skim milk back to feed the calves and pigs.  She carried all the feed for the livestock and, until they got hydro, all the water was carried from the river by 5 gallon pails.
For many years while Tony worked away from the farm, Vicky did all the haying with the help of her children.  Long days and short nights were the norm.  Many nieces, nephews and grandchildren enjoyed the good times spent on the farm.  These visits were a welcomed pleasure as it was a break from Mom’s daily routine.  When they moved to town, first to Pine River and then to Dauphin, Vicky worked for a time as a cleaning lady at the Boulevard Hotel and then as a janitor at the DRCSS.  Mom tended to her garden, house plants, made doilies, pot holders and continued to make perogies, holopchi, kisto, syr, and her famous kapusta.  Even while living in her apartment, she grew her tiny tim tomatoes on her deck.  It was rare to leave her home without a treat or treasure of some sort.
Cooking and baking for family was something Mom enjoyed until her declining health required her to move to the personal care home a year ago.
Vicky was predeceased by both of her parents; husband Tony; brothers  Albert, Tony, Hellar, and Nestor; sisters Eleanor, Elizabeth, Sylvia, Lucy, Phyllis and 1 infant; brothers- in-law Mike Andreychuk, Ray Irwin, Steve Pomozybida; sisters- in-law Shirley, Betty; and most recently son in-law Joe Cermak, as well as numerous uncles and aunts.
Left to treasure her memory are her daughters Connie Cermak, Florence (Ed) Dowbush; son Clifford Kostiuk; grandchildren Kirk Cermak, Kelly (Tom) Andres, Patricia (Hugh) Graham, Patrick Dowbush, Crystal (Matt) Rowe; great grandchildren Joseph, Sam, Naomi, Ruth, Esther, Titus, and Malachi Andres, Elizabeth, and Callum Rowe;  brothers Victor, Fabian (Helen) Kimakovich.  As well as numerous nieces and & nephews.

Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 11:00 am from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin,  MB with Rev. Laverne Lewycky officiating.  Interment followed in Pulp River Cemetery in Pulp River, MB.  Pallbearers were Ernie Serwa, Richard Irwin, Vernon Irwin, Joseph Andres, Samual Andres, Naomi Andres.
