Tracey Gendreau Obituary

On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, Tracey Lynn Marie Gendreau passed away suddenly at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Tracey was born March 22, 1963 at the Ste. Rose Hospital to Norman and Sherry Thompson (nee D'Aoust).  She grew up on the family farm south of Ochre River.  Tracey attended school at Ochre River until Grade 6 and then went to McKenzie Middle School and graduated from the DRCSS in June of 1981.

Tracey became a 4-H member at the age of 8 as a mini club member in the Ochre River Merry Makers.  Over the years, she took sewing, Foods and the Hunter Safety Course.

Tracey began working at Woolworth's in the cafeteria after school and sometimes on weekends.  After graduation, Tracey worked in the Co-op lumberyard as well as babysitting for many friends and neighbors.  She loved the country and loved the many hiking trips made to Snake Hill, the lookout, the beaver dam and the many picnics at Skene's Crossing.  As a child she loved riding her bike, playing piano, singing and dancing.

On September 12, 1981, Tracey married Rene Gendreau Jr of Ste. Rose du Lac.  They left Manitoba to settle in Logan Lake, BC and then moved to Red Deer, Alberta later the same year.  Their 4 sons were all born in Red Deer.  While in Alberta, she worked as a school bus driver and even went back to school with a dream to become a nurse, but found it too difficult with 4 young boys.  Tracey was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 1992.  The family moved once more to a farm in Sangudo, Alberta in 1997.

In June 2000, Tracey moved to Dauphin.  She could be found cruising the streets of Dauphin on her scooter.  Tracey moved herself back to Alberta.  She lived in the Dr. Keir Centre in Barrhead, AB after falling and breaking her hip.  Tracey moved to the Tache Youth Centre in St. Boniface in January 2009 and remained there until her death on December 12, 2018 due to complications of her MS.

Tracey was predeceased by her father Norman Thompson on March 30, 2015, her grandparents Rene & Lillian D'Aoust and Richard & Gertrude Thompson, numerous aunts and uncles of the Thompson and D'Aoust family and her 2 cousins Douglas Thompson and Daryle D'Aoust.

She leaves to mourn her passing; her 4 sons Rene Jr (Krysta), Jevon (Candace), Bryan (Janice), and Guy (Megan), her 8 grandchildren Ethan, Owen, Nixon, Trenton, Lauren, Emery, Aspen and Thea, her mother Sherry Thompson, her brother Gordon (Vivian), her sisters Trudy (Robert) and Jo-Anne (Norman) along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

The family would like to thank the many friends and family for all of the love and support we received.  To the Tache Centre (Action Marguerite) for all of the love and support given to Tracey over the past 10 years.  A very special thank you to Auntie Alexis and Uncle George Berard for all of the special things they did for Tracey.
