Susan Mertens Obituary

Susan Theresa Mertens, 68, of Ste. Rose du Lac, passed away on November 11, 2019 after battling cancer.
Susan was married to Mike Mertens on November 23, 1974 in Salida, Colorado. They built a life together close to her family in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba and were married for 45 years.
Susan worked as a Financial Advisor in the Ste. Rose area until retiring in 2015 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She enjoyed her work, clients and coworkers who she called friends. Susan was skilled at sewing and quilting, enjoyed curling for many years, and was an avid hockey fan. She spent most of her summers gardening and camping with her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who knew her as Oma.  She was also actively involved in many community charities including One Hundred Women Who Care and the Grotto Restoration Committee.
Susan will be lovingly remembered by husband Mike, children Burgess (Aaron) and Zachary (Claire), grandchildren Bailie and Jaycee; Susan’s mother Doris; siblings Wayne (Myra), Alden (Valerie), Corinne (Bob), Richard (Joanne) and Sheila, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Susan’s family will have a private burial in the Spring of 2020 followed by a celebration of life open to her community and friends. Date and time to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the Grotto Restoration Fund, Box 724, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, R0L 1S0.
Susan's family wishes to thank all of the healthcare workers and friends who have supported them over the last few years while Susan battled cancer, and to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services.
