Ronald Frederick Sloboda was born on February 1, 1944, the 4th child born to Fred and Mary Sloboda. He grew up in Oak Brae and attended the Oak Brae School and then the North Lake School. Ron graduated from North Lake in Grade 8. After he finished his schooling, he worked with his family on the farm. Ron's working years took him to Lynn Lake, Sheridan and Thompson. He spent some time on the building and bridges crew for CN. Ron also worked for Amisk Drilling, Werbiski Plumbing and Russ's Painting and Decorating. He also worked on the construction of the Roman Catholic Church and the Mall in Dauphin. Ron took over the family farm in 1968 and spent his winters commercial ice fishing. In 1966, Ron met the love of his life Gloria Dryden. They were married on November 18, 1967. Shortly afterwards they started their family. Rosanne was born in 1968, Pam in 1969 and Jenny in 1974. They lived and raised their family on the family farm until his passing.
During his life, Ron enjoyed spending time with family, coffee time with neighbors and friends, card playing, birds, chickens, cows and pets. He enjoyed getting into mischief with family and his Oak Brae buddies. Ron enjoyed his nieces and nephews, but most importantly his grandchildren, he was blessed to have 6 grandchildren. Earlier this year, Ron was thrilled to meet his great grandson. Ron leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many fond memories; his wife of 51 years Gloria, his daughters Rosanne (Harvey), Pamela (Barry) and Jennifer (Greg), his grandchildren Michelle (Nathan), Dale, Cameron, Tyler, Skyler and Mitchell and his great grandson Bowe, his sisters Ruth, Patsy (David), his brother Freddie (Holly), his sisters-in-law Bev, Bunny (Gary), Lorraine (Surindar) and Rose Marie (Brad), his brother-in-law Dale along with his godsons Clarence and Tyler, numerous nieces, nephews extended family and many friends. Ron was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary, his brothers Robert, Russell and Roy, his inlaws Melvin and Florence Dryden, his sister-in-law Karen and his brother-in-law Victor.
Prayers were offered on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 7:00 pm from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB.
Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 2:30 pm from in Toutes Aides, MB with Fr. Patrick Neufeld officiating.
