It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of René Alarie on January 14, 2019 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre.
René was born August 10, 1945 in St. Boniface, MB, named Irenee Joseph Clement Alarie son to Hormidas & Gracia (nee Leclaire) Alarie.
As a young man René started working in Winnipeg at multiple clothing factories in the early 1970’s. It was there that he met the love of his life, Katherine Pakulak, they had been working at the same factory. René and Katherine were married in July 1975. Katherine was originally from the Fork River area, and after getting married they returned to Fork River to start farming. On the farm he worked the fields of hay and grain. They kept cattle for milking and cream production. They had pigs, chickens, and a few horses. They also had a couple goats for a few weeks until René returned them to auction as they were a headache and nuisance according to him. They farmed from 1975 to September 1998, when they sold the farm and moved to Dauphin, MB. René did construction work until retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors, up keeping the yard and garden and relishing the produce that was grown. Our family has many memories of camping every summer after his retirement. René was able to travel to Montreal and BC to visit his sisters that he loved dearly.
The things of importance to him were his faith for the Catholic Church, his love for his family, the visits to the past family farm and its neighbors. He also enjoyed politics and being informed of community events. He worked hard on all things he did and did them to the best of his ability. René loved his wife Katherine dearly and will forever. He was a strong man, a man of few words with a huge heart and gentle hands.
Left to mourn and cherish fond memories are his wife Katherine; daughter Louise Alarie (Willie Bodman) and their two children Bree and Beau Bodman; son David Johnson (Jennifer) and their three children, Benjamin, Brayden and Peyton; two brothers Emile and wife Madeleine of Winnipeg, & Marc and wife Shelley of Winnipeg; four sisters Marie and husband Eugene Hogue of Summerland, BC, Alice and predeceased husband Paul Dumaine of Edmonton, AB, Louise and husband Don Thevenot of Montreal, QC, Adrienne and husband Robert Paquette of Winnipeg, MB.
