Philip Kotyk Obituary

Philip Mark Kotyk, of Gilbert Plains, Manitoba, passed away on September 8, 2019 in Grandview, Manitoba at the age of 92.

Philip was was born in Gilbert Plains on November 22, 1926 to Mark and Ksanka Kotyk (nee Balak). Philip helped his father on the farm until such time that he took over the farm.

Philip married Sylvia Lypka on October 11, 1952. They lived on the family farm where they raised three children. Philip and Sylvia moved to town in 1991 when Philip retired from farming at the age of 65. However, Philip continued to travel to the farm daily to supervise the farming operation now in his son’s hands.

With the farm in the rear view mirror, Philip and Sylvia started venturing beyond the Parkland to visit family and friends. Some of Philip’s favourite pastimes included smoking fish with Carl and Wenzel and road touring with Frank  and Johnny. There were numerous trips to Winnipeg, that rarely went from point A to point B without a random stop along the way to visit one monument or another and to snap a picture. Philip and Sylvia traveled across Canada and out of the country on numerous occasions. Philip always believed that people should work hard when they are young so that they can enjoy life when they are older - that is exactly what he did.

Philip loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. Gardening and cooking became a passion as Philip went from growing livestock and crops for market to cooking up delicious meals enjoyed by all.

Philip will be sadly missed  by his loving wife Sylvia; son Dennis and Carol Kotyk (Scott, Brett and Nathan); daughter Darlene Donnelly and Ken Kempf (Chad and Tara Donnelly great grandchildren Taylor and Tenley; Paula and Mike Stuart: great grandchildren Shelby and Cooper); daughter Jeane and Darrell Mischuk (Dakota Mischuk and Carley Robson, Mikayla Mischuk); sister Dorothy Sweet; brother Carl Kotyk; sister-in-law Stella Kotyk, and devoted companion/furry friend Lucifer. Philip is predeceased by his parents, sisters Anne Kornafel (John), Mary Klingbell (Mike), Pearl Andrusiak (William), and Jean; brothers Fred (Emma) and Harvey. Philip is also predeceased by brother-in-law Garnet Sweet and sisters-in-law Norma Kotyk and Olga Kotyk.
