Olga Chychowski Obituary

Olga Chychowski of Grandview, Manitoba passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the age of 75 years.

Olga Marie Chychowski was born on June 27, 1944 in the Sugarloaf District, Grandview Municipality to Paul & Mary Kaban (Nychowski).  She was the 7th child out of 8.

She attended school in Sugarloaf from grades 1-8, which was located directly across the road from their homestead, so no excuses for Olga not going to school.

After the passing of her parents Olga remained living on the homestead with her brothers Pete & John. Looking after her two brothers was a big chore, but Olga did it and never once complained.  She was a hard worker, doing chores such as milking cows, raising chickens and working in the fields.  She always planted an enormous garden more than what they could use, but always shared with the rest of the neighborhood and family.

Olga, John and Pete never missed a dance at the Sugarloaf Hall, Petlura Hall or Pleasant Valley Hall, lots of dancing and laughs.  I bet you can guess out of the 3 of them who always had to drive home.  The three of them loved playing cards and aggravation either at Frank & Lillan’s, Mike & Ann’s or Lewis & Lillian’s.  We think a lot of cheating went on.  Olga was a member of the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church at Riding Park.  She helped with many fall suppers, Praznik dinners and numerous other Riding Park events.

After her brothers passed away Olga remained living on the farm for a couple more years.  She then decided to work off the farm and took on some house cleaning jobs in Grandview.  She later was employed with the Grandview Personal Care Home & Hospital for 20 years.  After a couple years of driving Olga decided it was time to leave her family farm and move into town.  She moved in with her sister Annie and lived with her until Annie’s passing, then remained living with her niece Marian.  Olga & Marian’s favorite past times were going and having coffee with family and friends, shopping in Dauphin or Roblin or taking a day trip to Pyott’s visiting everyone at the lake.

She got to celebrate her 75th birthday with family and friends at the hospital.  Her family was by her side right up until her passing.

Olga was predeceased by her parents Paul & Mary; brothers Pete & John; sisters Annie, Teenie, Nellie & Mable; niece Jeanette Sawchuk; nephew Mike Kaminski.  She is survived by her sister Lillian Kozakowski; brother Matt Chychowski; godchild Darlene McNabb, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces &nephews, as well as numerous friends.

Prayers were offered on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 7:00 pm from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin.
