Nadia Nakonechny Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Nadia Margaret Nakonechny on Monday, August 26, 2019 in Dauphin, MB at the age of 72 years.
Nadia was born June 11, 1947 to parents Mike and Ann Swientack (Merko) from Ethelbert, MB.  She had one sister Janice Geske. Nadia completed school and graduated in Ethelbert, MB then went on to Red River Community College where she and her sister completed their nursing degrees. They then completed their practical education at the Dauphin General Hospital.  While in Ethelbert school she met Manuel Nakonechny and after 3 years they married on September 20 1969.  They moved to Thompson where Manuel was already working, and soon after Nadia started working at the Thompson General Hospital, where she retired from after 25 years of service. Nadia was a caring nurse who always provided the special care for all her patients and always enjoyed bringing her special treats she baked to work for everyone to enjoy.  Nadia was blessed with many talents which she loved to do.  Painting Ukrainian Easter eggs was an art she perfected and had many baskets around her home and in every glass cabinet. She even painted 2 ostrich eggs which she spent many hours perfecting as she always did.  She spent many hours knitting sweaters and kupchy along with crocheting many table cloths and cross stitching all of us Ukrainian shirts and blouses.  She truly had a talent that everyone admired. Nadia was known for her exceptional wedding cake decorating, as cakes were created for many special couples in her life.
Nadia was an excellent cook and spent many hours pinching perogies at home and with the Ukrainian ladies at the church.  She was heavily involved with the St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church in Thompson where she volunteered time for catering for the various hall functions. She taught the parish children catechism at the rectory as they were growing, spreading the word of the Lord. She had a way with the children who really admired her.  Nadia won a trip to Texas on a radio contest, where her and Manuel celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Everyone who saw them thought this couple was way too young to be celebrating their 25th anniversary. Enjoying a trip to Peurto Vallarta Mexico with Manuel, Janice and Jennifer was another highlight in her life. Traveling from the BC Coast to the East coast across Canada was something she fondly admired and talked about with all of us.
She enjoyed her visitors that helped her with her activities of daily living and always greeted them with a smile and enjoyed their company and help.
Nadia is survived by husband, Manuel Nakonechny; son, Stephen Nakonechny; daughter-in-law, Lynn Nakonechny; daughter, Jennifer Nakonechny partner, Mike Romeiro; grandchildren, Lacee Nakonechny, Morgan Nakonechny, Chloe Battershell, Ema Romeiro, Grace Romeiro; sister Janice Geske.  She was predeceased by her parents Mike and Ann Swientach.
