It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin Billy Yaseniuk announce his sudden passing at his residence on November 3, 2018.
Melvin was born in Gilbert Plains on December 10, 1953 to Eva (Boyachuk) and Mike Yaseniuk. Melvin attended school in Gilbert Plains. Upon completion of his education he worked for Syncrude Canada in Fort McMurray, AB where he attained his heavy duty mechanics license. During this time Melvin and Mary Ellen were married in Fort McMurray in 1978. Another milestone occurred in 1982 when Tanis "the apple of his eye" was born.
Even though all this time his love of outdoors and farming never left him. Holidays were always spent back on the farm in Manitoba.
In 1990, Melvin and family purchased the family farm and moved back to Manitoba. As well as farming, Melvin was employed as a mechanic by Champion Graders and Wajax Industries; then Gilbert Plains Co-op for the last 15 years.
In his spare time, Melvin could always be found outdoors, picking saskatoons and other fruit, sawing wood, working with the cattle and attending the odd auction sale. In the last five years his greatest passion was playing with his grandchildren.
Melvin was predeceased by his parents Eva and Mike Yaseniuk; his sister Delores Sukaroff; brothers Albert and Morris Yaseniuk; nephew Bobby Yaseniuk; as well as his in-laws Lorraine Hanson and Daniel McElheron; and brother-in-law David Mychasiw.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Mary Ellen; daughter Tanis (Matt) Hudson and grandsons Kody and Carter; as well as one sister Gloria Brulotte (Gerry Shmon); brothers Ernie (Anne), Donald (Donna), Allan (Sandra), Arnold (Nancy), Edward Yaseniuk and Dennis Yaseniuk; sisters-in-law Janet Sheeshka, Bonnie Mychasiw; brother-in-law Gordon (Debbie) Green; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at 11:00 am from Chatsworth Cemetery in Gilbert Plains, MB with Rev. Karen Kuzek officiating, followed by a luncheon at the Legion Hall in Gilbert Plains for family and friends.
Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Melvin may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of MB or charity of one's choice.
