Marvin Yakielashek Obituary

Marvin Yakielashek passed on to his eternal home in the early hours of July 23, 2019, at the palliative care unit in the Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 69.

Marvin was born in Dauphin on February 8, 1950 and grew up on the family farm northeast of Sifton.  He attended Fishing River School from grades 1-8 then the Dauphin Collegiate Technical Institute in Dauphin.  He attended and worshiped at Sifton Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, also being an alter server in his formative years.  Marvin lived in Sifton with his family until going their separate ways.  Marvin later moved to Dauphin and spent many times visiting with family and friends, gardening and making perogies, headcheese, jam and watching westerns.

Marvin began his working life at Sifton CO-OP as Clerk-Manager until it was sold.  He continued his employment as a fuel delivery driver with GULF fuel, later to be known as Petro-Canada in Dauphin. He was known to many farmers in the area with his quick wit, endless conversation and committed work ethic.  He left Petro-Canada and began working for various area farmers until his health forced him into retirement.  Although he struggled with his health over the last few years, Marvin continued his daily practices without concern.

He is survived by his son, Clinton (Janine) Rebec of Calgary, AB, daughter, Priscilla (Shawn) Kowalke of Winnipeg, MB, grandchildren, London & Lilah  of Calgary, AB, brothers, Ken (Nadia) of Dauphin, Larry (Denise) & Stephen (Tracey) of Selkirk, MB, mother to his children, Beverley Shewchuk as well as many nieces & nephews.  He was predeceased by his father, Steve in 1985, his mother Verna in April 2019, sister Bertha in March 1943 and brother Teddy in March 1957.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at St. Viator’s Roman Catholic Church at 2:00 PM with interment following at the Sifton Roman Catholic Church cemetery.
