Lena Elizabeth (Robson) Richardson

With great sadness we announce the passing of Lena Elizabeth Richardson (Robson) on November 3, 2018 at the age of 101 years.
Lena was born December 14, 1916 at Dauphin, Manitoba to James and Ida Robson (Chestle).  She had an older sister Edith and a younger brother Lloyd.  She attended Old Dauphin School and then McKenzie High School to finish Grade 11.  Lena wanted to be a teacher but due to the death of her Mother when she was just thirteen, and economic hard times she returned to the farm to help her Father.
She met Leonard Richardson and they married on December 25, 1941.  They set up their home on SW23-25-19. After marrying Loenard they started milking Purebred Guernseys. They had three children George, Jack and Margaret.  They built the herd up and George came home from U of M in 1966 to takeover and they milked cows until 1976.
Lena had an immense love of animals.  She could go to the pasture and the cows would all gather around her.  There were always dogs and lots of cats around.  Her other love was her flowers and the garden.  She always had flowers and vegetables to show at the Dauphin Fair and the Horticultural Show.
Lena was very active in the community as a member of the Old Dauphin Ladies Club, the Town and Country Club, secretary of the Manitoba Guernsey Association for 13 years, member of the United Church Women for years.  Especially important to her was the Horticultural Club, where she served as secretary for 25 years.  She received a life membership in the Horticultural Club in 1998.
Lena is survived by son George and wife Jean, son Jack (Judy) and daughter Margaret.  Her beloved grandchildren Elizabeth (Alvin), Jennifer, Jim (Tara) and great grandchildren Emma, Elayna and Aiden Richardson-Kuzyk, and Brenden and Bryanne Higgins, sister-in-law Alice McLean, brother-in-law Ken Richardson and wife Diane, and numerous nephews an nieces.
Lena was predeceased by parents James and Ida Robson, husband Leonard Richardson (1989), brother Lloyd Robson, sister Edith Kydd and grandson Leonard John Richardson (all in 1994).
The family thanks Dr. Mathison and the staff of St. Paul's for their care and compassion for Lena for the last 8 years.

Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm from Dauphin First United Church in Dauphin, MB with Ilene Dowd officiating.  Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.  Pallbearers were Bruce Robson, Glenn Richardson, Murray McLean, Alvin Kuzyk, Jimmie Higgins, Ron Marlin.
