Laura Britsky Obituary

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Laura just one day shy of her 99th Birthday. Laura passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 3, 2019 at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home, where she had been a resident for the last four years. Laura always complimented the compassionate and kind care she received from the staff at the home. She loved the view from her room into the courtyard of flowers.
Laura was born August 4, 1920 in Sanford, Manitoba to Charles and Julia Everts. The family later moved to the Ochre River District into a log house across from the Hamilton School, where she met George Geisel at a dance. In 1942 she married George and moved to the homestead farm in Makinak, Manitoba where she and George raised 6 children, including a set of twins. The Geisel farm was granted the Century Farm Designation in 1996 and still remains in the family 123 years later. A testament to the solid foundation of family devotion Laura built and modeled throughout her life.
Laura was an active member of the Makinak United Church. With her hands in the dirt and her head in the sun, Laura was an avid gardener and always had large productive garden. Her skills in the garden were equally matched by her skilled passion in her kitchen where she was an amazing cook and baker. Laura was well known in the community for her excellent desserts. Her family especially loved her homemade buns, butter tarts and cookies. When her grandchildren were coming for a visit you could find Laura in her kitchen days ahead baking an assortment of special requests of each child’s favorite treat. She also loved to sew. She created gorgeous works of art in patchwork which she completed all by hand, one perfect square at a time. In her later years she started quilting with her good friend Bernie Furlong and made beautiful keepsake quilts for her children and all her grandchildren.
Laura moved to Dauphin in 1972 several years after she lost her husband George. She worked at the Dauphin Hospital where she was known for her kindness and compassion. She met and married Walter Britsky in 1978.
Laura was predeceased by her husband George in 1968, her husband Walter in 1989,  parents Charles and Julia Everts, brothers Charles and Harry, sister Edna and her son Clifford.
Laura is survived by her children Marjorie (Ron), James (Jean), Bruce (Rita) and the twins Karen (Don) and Keith (Pat). She will be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home or a charity of one's choice.
