It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Klara Schaefer, at the age of 93 on October 6, 2018.
Klara Sophie Schaefer (nee Heiler) was born in Bad Prymond, Germany on April 29, 1925. She married Ernst Schaefer on June 25, 1949.
As a young bride, with two small children, our parents immigrated to Canada in November of 1955 on the Arosa Star; residing in Winnipeg until 1964, then relocating to Makinak to pursue farming.
Mom was truly one of a kind with a unique personality and a wry humour that kept us on our toes. She had an adventurous spirit for travel. Our parents travelled extensively with a fondness for Hawaii, Germany, England and the States. Mom never went anywhere without her camera and enjoyed sharing pictures of her trip with all. After dad's passing mom continued her travels visiting friends she had made over the years.
Our parents were well know for helping strangers, who in a short time would become part of the family. Young Shilo soldiers who were sent their way were always welcomed into what would become a second home, where they could relax and enjoy a meal.
She is survived by her daughters Tamara/George Rossin, Erika/Wes Cooper and son Ernest Schaefer, along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Special friends who have become family, Theo Hengsbach, Hans, Frank and Ralph Winkler.
Mom was predeceased in death by her husband, Ernst Schaefer in 1999 and grandson Cory Rossin in 2018.
In keeping with the family's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
