Kay Tycholis Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, baba and great baba, Kataryna (Kay) Tycholis on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the age of 90 years at the Winnipegosis Personal Care Home in Winnipegosis, MB.
Kay was predeceased by her husband Paul, her son Daniel, her infant daughter Alice, her parents Eli and Mary Ochitwa and brothers John, Sam and George.  Left to cherish many precious memories are son Terry and wife Cindy of Regina, SK, daughter Myrna of Cochrane, AB, daughter-in-law Olive Seale of Dauphin, MB, grandchildren Kristi (Darryl) Sivertson of Regina, SK, Breanne (Lachlan) Tycholis-Vigna of Brisbane, Australia, great grandchildren Lukas, Jack, Dalin, Juniper and Mila, sisters Ella Patricks of Roseville, CA, and Audrey Wasylyshen of Winnipeg, MB as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kay was born June 7, 1928 in Mikado, SK to Eli and Mary (nee Verbiwski) Ochitwa.  She moved to Pine River, MB as a young girl where she soon met and married Paul Tycholis.  Kay’s life was very busy, and while raising her children and working at the Pine River Hotel, she was also actively involved in the community as a 4-H leader, an avid curler and a life-time member of the United Church.  A passionate gardener, Kay took pride in her beautiful yard and garden and was an excellent cook.  After Paul died in 1970, her strength of character was challenged but never wavered, and she continued to instill the values of love, compassion and kindness in our family.  Kay later moved to Dauphin, where she worked in the food service industry.  She also enjoyed bowling, arts and crafts, and even lead an exercise class at St George’s, and could often be found with the coffee gang at the Dauphin mall.  She resided in Dauphin until her move to Winnipegosis.
Flowers are gratefully declined; those wishing to remember Kay may honor her memory by making a donation to the charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the extraordinary care and comfort provided by the staff of the Winnipegosis Personal Care Home and Hospital, to Sandi Bass for her assistance and friendship that meant the world to mom and to us, to mom’s doctors, the Dauphin hospital staff and the folks at Happy Haven Assisted Living who took such good care of her.  We are forever grateful to everyone who reached out to help mom when her health started failing.  Thank you to the staff of Sneath Strilchuk Family Care Centre and to Minister Ilene Dowd for officiating the service.  Thank you also to Bruce and Karla at Irving's Catering for the beautiful lunch, and to everyone who supported and helped us in this difficult time.

Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 11:00 am from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB with Ilene Dowd officiating.  Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.  Pallbearers were Blaine Zaharia, Ward Zaharia, Barry Verbiwski, John Ochitwa, Darryl Sivertson, David Semeniuk.
