Katherine "Kay" Sraybash Obituary

Katyrena Ethel "Kay" Sraybash
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Kay Sraybash on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home at the age of 81 years.
Kay was born on December 2, 1937 in Weiden, MB to William and Mary Osadchuk (nee Billay).  Kay attended school at Meadowlands and 1 year at Weiden.  She was a very hard worker.  Kay worked on the family farm, walking a couple of miles to find and bring the cows home and then milking up to 14 cows by herself two times a day when her parents were away from the farm.  Kay left home at the age of 15 years and on July 31, 1953, she married Steve Sraybash.  They had 4 children David, Janet, Gale and Dale.  Their family was complete following the arrival of the twins!
Kay was very proud of her cooking and canning.  She loved baking bread and making cinnamon buns, especially if she knew that she was getting company for the weekend or anytime.  When company was leaving, Kay made sure that she gave you a loaf of bread or a jar of homemade soup to take home.  Kay and Steve ran their catering business "Kay and Steve's Catering" for many years and received many compliments for their cooking over the years with their perogies and cabbage rolls being a favorite for many.  During hunting season, Kay would always have a hot meal prepared for the hunters to come home to.  Although she did not like to fish, Kay was always there to tell the fishing crew how to properly filet the fish.  Kay kept a huge garden and she made sure to share her bounty with family and friends.  She was always a very giving person.
When not working hard, Kay could be found taking part in numerous hobbies.  She enjoyed crib and scrabble and won most of the time.  Kay loved to play bingo and served as president of the Drop-in-Centre in Rorketon for many years along with assisting with the Bingo Council.   Kay kept everyone well fed at bingo as she made the snacks for Friday and Sunday night bingo. She was a 4-H leader and assisted with quilting at the Drop-in-Centre.   In winter time, Kay could be found in her living room making quilts for her grandchildren.  Kay and Steve would spend many a winter day stitching together.
Kay and Steve sold the farm in Rorketon and moved to the Happy Haven in Dauphin 4 years ago.  They enjoyed living at Happy Haven and made some wonderful friends there.  They moved to the Dauphin Personal Care Home a month ago due to health issues.
Kay was predeceased by her parents William and Mary Osadchuk, her grandparents John & Teckla Billay,  her brother Peter (Norma) Billay and her sister Florence (Walter) Turko, her in-laws Dan & Lena Sraybash, her brother-in-law William Sraybash, and her sister and brother-in-law Nellie and Cliff Kind.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish many fond memories; her husband Steve, her children David (Carol), Janet (Chris), Gale (Tim) and Dale (Tammy), her 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren, her sister Pauline (Harry) Helash , her brother Paul (Karen) Osadchuk and her sister-in-law Ann Sraybash  along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
