Ivy Malanchuk Obituary

Ivy Malanchuk (nee Federowich) passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at Dauphin Regional Hospital with her daughter by her side.
Mom was born August 25, 1933 in the municipality of Gilbert Plains to Nick and Mary (Filipchuk) Federowich.  She was the youngest daughter of 9 children, 7 girls and 2 boys.  Mom attended Halicz School and later at Trembola where she met dad and were later married on June 2, 1950.  Together they led a busy life working on the farm, milking cows and working on the land.  She grew an enormous garden and shared the bountiful produce with family.  Mom also baked her own bread, pies, buns and everyone’s favorite, perogies, loved by all especially her grandchildren.  Moving to Dauphin, Mom worked as an aide in the hospital and was a very active church goer.  She belonged to the Apostleship of Prayer and was involved in Pastorial Care.  She was also very active with the Ukrainian Catholic Hall (11th Ave.) For pleasure Mom loved to play bingo, do puzzles and her pride was her garden.  She enjoyed visits from family, friends and neighbors.  She was a kind and compassionate person.
Mom is survived by her daughters Loretta (Leonard), Patricia (Elmer) and Donna, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren - Gerald (Hannah, Charlie), Terry, Jonathan (Mika), Samantha, Rae, Pam (Brittany, Breanne).  Also surviving her is her sister Kay Baran.
Mom and Dad became members of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin.  After Dad’s passing in 2002 Mom remained in her house and this was a major adjustment in her life.  She kept busy in her large garden and making sure everyone went home with plenty.  Being independent she continued to do her own shopping, housekeeping, attending church every chance she had.  She always had to pick up her ladies for church.  Mom battled cancer for 42 ½ years.  She was a very strong person, lived in her own home till 2 days before she passed away.
Ivy was predeceased by her husband Bill, parents Nick and Mary Filipchuk, Jerry and Vicky Federowich, David and Mary Federowich, Verna and John Orobko, Victoria and John Prestyako, Lil and Jim Farr, Shirley and Ed Ross, sister Mary Benilda and Fred Baran.
Special thanks go out to Dr. Reed and staff and Palliative Care for their dedicated and compassionate care for Mom and family.  Also thank you to Father Oleg Bodnarski for his spiritual support in a time of need, and to Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service staff for their professional service which was so comforting.  Mom will be deeply missed.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Manitoba Cancer Care or the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin.
