Iris Yuill Obituary

Iris Margaret Yuill (Parker) passed away quietly surrounded by her children in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba on June 18, 2019. She was born October 6, 1939 in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba to Hallam Parker and Beatrice Parker (Bell). Iris was raised in Gilbert Plains with her brothers and sisters then continued her studies in the field of nursing. Achieving her License in Practical Nursing (LPN), she worked in Winnipeg, Gilbert Plains, Thompson, Grand Rapids, and Carberry.

She saved to take a six -month trip to Europe with her friend Cathy and has since shared her desire to learn about the world with her children. She shared a 42-year marriage with husband Jack Yuill (1930-2011), playing an active role in the success of the farm and the lives of her children.

When Iris’s children were young, she was very active holding leadership positions in the community. Iris enjoyed a relaxing game of golf, a long laugh with friends, a good cup of coffee, and a discussion of world events. She was a crafter, gardener, seamstress, quilter, pie-maker, and joke teller. A skilled tech she used social media to communicate with friends, read her favorite law blogs and stay informed.

When you think of Iris, your memories of her might include celebrating a great curling match, exchanging Maud cartoons on the internet, reviewing recent political calamities and coups, or experiencing her clever and sometimes cutting wit. Although all of our memories will be different, you might think of Iris when you hear the verse of a lovely song, see a wilting African violet return to life, smell the coming rain or enjoy the smell of fresh clothes off the line. Together, we might see a flitting yellow finch or blooming dragon-wing begonia and know she will always be with us. We will remember our exceptional “Mom” in immeasurable ways.

Iris will be profoundly missed by her children Tara, Lorelei, Shane and Tanya; grandchildren, Raina and Braeden Syrnyk, Matea and Avalee Jacobs; and Aidan, Logan and Eric Wilson (her BFF). She is also survived by her sisters Joanne Findlater and children, Rosemary Kissock and children, and her brother Bruce Parker. She was predeceased by her brothers Burke Parker and Lyle Parker.

We are honored to share our love and respect for the most influential, important and treasured woman in our lives, our mother, Iris Yuill.

Special thanks to Dr. Miller at the Winnipeg Renal clinic, Dr. Clark at Dauphin General, Audrey Labelle with Palliative Care, and Candace Ewanyshyn at Prairie Mountain Health. Thank you to all friends and family for your thoughtful words, kindness and sharing of memories of Iris
