Iris Muir Obituary

Iris Cecilia Muir

Iris Muir (nee Price) passed away peacefully at the McCreary Personal Care Home on October 8, 2018 at the age of 90 years.

Iris was born April 11, 1928  in Winnipeg where she grew up. Her mother passed away when she was 5 and from a young age she helped out in her father’s bakery on Osborne Street.  She also worked at Dominion Bank and Hudson Bay House.

Iris met the love of her life Jim at the Winnipeg Roller Rink and in 1950 they were married.  In 1952 they built a house on Oakdean Blvd. where they raised their three children.  Iris loved being a mother and later a grandmother, and always had time to play with her children and grandchildren. She was always up for a card game or any other kind of game - just don’t try to change the rules!!

Mum also had a passion for dogs. She had her dog Tipsy trained to do all kinds of amazing things - that dog would do anything for her!

They had many wonderful friends and neighbors.  All remember their parties with lots of music laughter and good food. Mum was a great cook and baker.  We can’t forget Mum’s “Stitch & Bitch” Club. Ladies would come over with their mending or whatever, have tea, and we think a lot more bitching was done than stitching!!

Victoria Beach held a special place in her heart as it was one of the last places she spent time with her mother.  It was a highlight in her life when she and Jim were able to build their cottage at Victoria Beach .

So many happy memories were made at the beach - swimming, boating, picnics, trips to Elk Island and the Sand Cliffs , games, parties, golfing, and we can’t forget Mum’s brisk walks - very brisk! Everyone had trouble keeping up to Iris!!

After retirement they made Victoria Beach their home - and then they discovered Arizona.  Mum loved wintering at Lake Havasu. She liked the desert and the dry air made her feel good - no aches and pains.

In later years they spent winters at Osoyoos BC where they were closer to Mum’s family. Mum liked to be busy and everywhere they went she made friends and got involved in the community

Iris will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 68 years, Jim. Children: Heather (Dave), Gordon (Leslee), Harold. Grandchildren: Ryan (Rhonda), Janine, Shannon (Richard), Kelsey (Terry), Laura, Jeanna, Annie, Jimmie.  Great grandchildren: Tyrese, Everett, Austin, Hayden, Jocelyn, Jayda and Charlotte. She was predeceased by parents Fred & Irene Price, sisters Frances and Phyllis, brother Syd.

In accordance with Iris’ wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.  Flowers are gratefully declined, should friends so desire those wishing to honor Iris may make a donation in her memory to the McCreary Alonsa Personal Care Home, PO Box 250, McCreary, MB, R0J 1B0.
