It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Ollie Genik on August 19, 2018 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre at the age of 76, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Irene was born on March 2, 1942 in Ituna, SK to Dmetro and Mary Derkach (nee Wowchuk)
Irene met and married Walter Genik in 1959 and together they had 4 children. They lived and farmed in the Keld District. They moved to Dauphin in 1965 while still farming. Irene became a health care aide and worked at St Paul’s Nursing Home for many years until she retired. She loved being with her family and grandchildren, as well as reading, building puzzles, playing cards & scratch lottery tickets. She had a great sense of humour and a strong faith.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Walter Genik on March 21, 2006 and son Steven on August 16, 2018. She is survived by her children, Brenda, daughter- in- law Cheryl, Karen (Doug), Rob (Angie); grandchildren Matthew (Destiny), Reid (Azalea), Callie (Brian), Alexander, Turner, Logan (Meagan), Devon (Taliah); her siblings Pearl, Doris, Wally (Shirley), Greg (Charylle), and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Banerji and staff of Cancer Care Manitoba, Dr. Lopez-Gardner, Dr. Matheson and staff of Dauphin Regional Health Centre for the excellent care.

Prayers were offered on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB.
Funeral Service was held on Friday, August 24, 2018 at 10:00 am from St. George's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Dauphin, MB with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating. Interment followed in Kosiw Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Keld, MB. Pallbearers were Logan Mullen, Devon Mullen, Reid Genik, Matthew Genik, Turner Harrison, Brian McGuigan.
