Frieda (Streu) Roloff

September 28, 1927 ~ July 8, 2019 (age 91)

Frieda (Freda) Roloff of Dauphin, in her 92nd year, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Winnipegosis & District Health Centre. 

Frieda was born on September 28, 1927 in Wiciejewo, Poland firstborn to Lydia and Gustav Streu. The family moved to West Germany in 1946 and Frieda found employment and independence there before immigrating to Canada in 1951. The Streu family settled near relatives in Dauphin, Manitoba. Frieda, who spoke various dialects of German and some Polish, now began to learn English.

In 1953, Frieda married, Bruno Roloff, who had lived in the same community in Poland and had immigrated to Canada with his family in 1949. Besides being a devoted homemaker and raising 3 children, Frieda helped in her husband’s construction projects, bowled in a 5-pin league, was known for her home-baked bread, loved her flower and vegetable gardens, was talented in sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and active in various roles at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Frieda is survived and will be missed by her husband, Bruno of Dauphin; children, Anita of Richmond Hill, ON, Evelyn of Winnipeg, Garry (Tannis) of Dauphin; and grandchildren, Eric (Shereen) of Edmonton, Taryn of Toronto, Lauren (Jeffrey) of Toronto, Erin (Luke) of Dauphin, Benjamin (Emily) of Winnipeg. She is also survived by her brothers, Bruno (Marlene), Herman (Bonnie), Hartnet (Heather); sister, Ruth Allard; and sister-in-laws, Mary Streu and Martha Bessel, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and parents-in-law, brother, Gerhard; bother-in-laws, Allan Allard, Bruno Rossin, Wilfrid Bessel, Nestor Leahul; sister-in-law, Bertha Rossin and son-in-law, Stan Daneman.

The family is grateful to all who have called and visited Frieda and to those who provided care, especially the staff of the Winnipegosis Health Centre, Dauphin Home Care, and Dr. Fjeldsted.

A Funeral Service was held for Frieda on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 10:30 am from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dauphin with Pastor Howard Burnie officiating.  

Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.
