First, I'd like to say that I wasn't able to attend Eric's service because I was traveling in Europe, on a river cruise. I was sad to not be able to be there. But I know that Eric liked river cruises, too, as he and I often talked travel - about places we'd been, and places we still wanted to go. I was with you all in spirit, and toasted to Eric - and all of you - from my cruise... now, here are my words for Eric.

As an entrepreneur, I've been fortunate to come across clients who are also good people. Dauphin's Countryfest is one of those clients. I've been part of their team for the last five festivals, and have come to know them all as very good people. I've also come to know that the driving force and number one champion behind Countryfest was festival president Eric Irwin.

Eric was a boss to me, a mentor, a confidant, a tour guide, an event buddy, a co-conspirator, and above all else, a friend. He had a welcoming presence and a warm smile, and extended a hand to everyone he met - whether he liked them or not. He was one of the most honest and direct people I know. He called it as he saw it, fiercely believed in his team and his town, and challenged the naysayers. He loved music, and took great pride in being at the helm of "Canada's Longest Running Country Music Festival," which has given back so much to your community over the past 28 years.

Eric truly was one of the "good people" and I'm grateful for every bit of time I got to spend with him. Even the times when he'd sit and talk my ear off in the festival office, sometime for hours on end... ;) I'm really going to miss those times now. It's hard to think those times are gone.

My heart goes out to Kim and family, my Dauphin's Countryfest family, the City of Dauphin, and all the people who knew and loved Eric. May his legacy live on in the countless lives he touched.

I was lucky enough to work with Eric on the Countryfest Community Cinema Board from the planning to construction and completion of the project. He worked hard to bring the movies back to Dauphin, while continuing his commitment to the many other projects he was involved with. I was always amazed at how tireless he was - it always felt like he was two steps ahead of the rest of us. Our deepest condolences to Kim, Erica, and family - it's a huge lost to our community and an immeasurable loss to you as a family.

During the winter, of 2006 I believe it was, I was heading home east of Dauphin, just east of the Eclipse area, during a pretty intense snow storm. There was about 6 inches of fresh snow, and a semi whizzed past me, causing a TOTAL whiteout. As I figured it would be better to err to the side of the DITCH, than to head on approaching traffic, I caught the shoulder and there I was, high and sitting on top of 4 feet of snow in the DITCH. Luckily I had my cell and called for a loader to pull me out. While I was sitting waiting an hour or 2, Although many went by, ONE vehicle drove past, stopped as soon as traffic behind him allowed, and in the raging snow and wind, backed up to me and got out of his truck to see if I was ok. ONE GUY. It was Eric, and I NEVER forgot that. Rest in peace Eric. Dauphin has lost a strong contributor. Condolences to your family.

Our deepest condolences to the family. Eric’s many accomplishments are everywhere to be seen, a testament to his progressive vision and tireless devotion to Dauphin. We’ll miss his leadership, his ideas and his humour. He took the time to chat whenever we’d bump into him and I’m certain many people feel the same: we’ve lost a friend in addition to a remarkable community leader. It’s difficult to comprehend we’ll no longer see him, in the dusty red Subaru, buzzing around town and back and forth to the Countryfest site. On one of my last emails to Eric, I postponed a meeting because my husband and I were heading to Vegas. As I worded it, we were “escaping from Dauphin for a holiday.” His reply epitomized his love for this city: "Escape from Dauphin?" People pay big bucks just to be here. But if a relief from Nirvana is in the cards, you should experience the ordinary!! Have fun!”

We will miss you Eric. Thank-you for all you did to improve our community.

As others have mentioned, I will reiterate, he always stopped to talk or even just took a moment to say "hello", never thinking he was above you!! Years ago, my father chose Eric to represent him in court - Eric spun circles around the plaintiff, bringing his own unique brand of “drama” and humor to the courtroom, having everyone in stitches and the judge rolling his eyes! Without question, he won the case! I want to thank him for that.
Deepest and sincerest sympathies to his family, friends, colleagues and the citizens of Dauphin. A very great loss. Rest In Peace, Mr. Irwin.
