Emily Sawicki of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the age of 87 years.
Emily Mary (Wilks) Sawicki came into the world September 2, 1931 in Dauphin, Manitoba. She grew up on the family farm seven miles north east of Dauphin with an appreciation of nature and learned to read and write in Polish, Ukrainian and English. Emily began her professional career at 18 with a Teaching Certificate in Winnipeg and returned to teach in a one room school in Ashville. She moved to Sudbury Ontario in the 50’s, married and had three children, Beverly, Leona (Leo) and Andrew. She moved to Thompson in the early 60's where she was a substitute teacher and enjoyed the cabin at Paint Lake, sewing, cooking, crocheting, gardening, scrabble and curling. In the 80's she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Inter-University North. She went onto become a Social Worker. In retirement she moved to Dauphin and volunteered at the Hospital gift store, was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and Senior center. She enjoyed working out at Boyze gym, lifting weights and her circle of friends. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly and Leona (Leo) and one granddaughter, Nicole (Nikki).
A Memorial Service was held for Emily on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 11:00 am from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Father John Legitimas officiating.
Interment followed in the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin.
