Elsie Deczycia Obituary

Surrounded by her loving family, Elsie Deczycia a devoted Mother, Baba, Sister and Aunty, passed away on August 19th, 2019  at the age of 74 at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre. Mom was loved and will forever be remembered by her 3 sons, Alex (Diane), Ernie (Correen) and Gerald; four grandchildren, Malayna, Kardon, Lyak and Jenna; along with brother Nicolas; sister Ollie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elsie was predeceased by her parents Nykola and Annie Hnatiuk; husband Alex; brothers Bill, Mike, Peter, Alex, Thomas, Morris and Harry; her sisters Mary, Marlene and Velma.

Elsie was born June 8th, 1945 in Dauphin, MB. She lived on the family farm outside of Gilbert Plains until 1959 when the family retired from farming and moved into town where she attended Gilbert Plains Collegiate, followed by working at the Dauphin Hospital as a nurses aide. During this time she met the love of her life Alex at the Gilbert Plains bus depot. They courted for a short time until they married  September 18th,1964, in Sifton, MB. They then resided in Thompson, MB where Alex was employed with Inco. During their time in Thompson, they were blessed with two boys, Alex in 1968 and Ernie in 1973. In 1976 they moved to their farm in Mink Creek to pursue their love of farming.
Elsie enjoyed the farm life! She took pride in her large vegetable & flower gardens, picking berries and mushrooms, along with being dedicated to her farm animals, especially chickens. You could also occasionally see Elsie in the field with Alex. Whether it be picking stones by hand or bringing meals to the field along with a cold beverage!! Wink. Wink! During the cold winter months, she was often helping Alex cut wood and doing chores.
In 1983, they welcomed their 3rd blessing.... Gerald. Gerald being the youngest was their pride and joy. In 1989 Elsie and Alex celebrated 25 years of marriage. This was one of the many celebrations held at the farm. Elsie enjoyed having company and there was always room for family. Music always filled their home, especially when family members would bring their instruments to play and sing. She would often join in and play her accordion.
Sadly in 1999 Elsie lost her loving husband Alex. Shortly thereafter she moved to Dauphin where she worked briefly until retirement. During her retirement this gave Elsie more time to spend with her kids and grandchildren. Whether it be attending Ukrainian dance recitals, making cookies, knitting or cross stitching. She took pride in everything she did. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Spending time with family was at the top of her list. Ukrainian Christmas was her favourite time of year. She always put on a big meal for family and friends! This will be truly missed.
Elsie was also devoted to her Catholic faith. This was truly evident when she was instrumental in helping build a Catholic Church in Thompson. She also devoted her Sundays singing in various church choirs and attending church events. These church events would always be accompanied by her world famous perogies. There was no shortage at the “Perogie Factory”
Mom, you have touched so many people in your lifetime and will be truly missed. Until we meet again.....Thank you Elsie, Mom, Baba, Sister, Aunty and friend.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre and the Stars ambulance service for the compassionate care they gave to Elsie. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Rest Eternal,  Vichnaya Pamyat.
